Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

I'm going to be a fair-weather fan for a while. Tonight I shall be my usual Bitter Bertie. Still, on Saturday, for some reason, I shall become an avid Geordie, and within a few days I shall switch allegiances to Atletico Madrid.

Fuck knows why.
I don’t blame you mate. The Geordies are always a nice friendly bunch and it would be great to see a quality team like Atletico lift the CL. I especially like Savic.

Honestly, if I was Arteta I'd be annoyed at the this Arsenal got some sort of 'psychological victory' shit. I'd want a media pile on to get that seige mentality going. This patronising praise from the pundits is more likely to result in players resting on their laurels.

As much as we think we get a rough deal from the media, I think the impossibly high standards we're held to helps us achieve impossibly high standards.

I can't belive they've started moaning about injuries again too. We've heard constantly about their squad depth. Masquera and White is hardly dipping into their academy. Saka has been run into the ground and has been wank this year anyway, so not a huge miss. I'll give them Merino, I actually rate him and think he is their best midfielder, better than that fucking Cart-horse d'or.

Saka has been run into the ground and has been wank this year anyway,
He has never been all that, anyway. I've always thought he was okay(ish), similar to Rashford in that he would stand out in some other European league, France or Germany, but not here in the Prem. Saka plays a decent pass against some mid-table side and the plaudits are out for the next month or so, but then he goes missing when it really matters and allows the game to pass him by. But the worst aspect of his game is the one that Lego has installed in all of his players - they fall over a lot. Saka goes off the pitch at full time, covered in mud and grass stains, yet he hardly featured in the game at all: he gets close to the opposition area and then suddenly goes down instead of trying to create something. Ridiculous!

As things stand, I don't really rate any of their players. Just not overly impressed. Mostly this is because I am incredibly biased; if they don't play for City then I don't think they're any good. But the main reason I don't rate most of their squad is because of what Lego has done to them, turned them from potential big game players into mediocre automatons.

Besides, Saka always reminds me of Larry Parks in the Jolson Story

Merino is actually their best striker. He’s a pretty ordinary player but he does seem to pop up with a goal in key moments. If he was on the end of that Trossard cross instead of that donkey Havertz they may have pinched a draw on the weekend

Don't think Rice was anonymous, he didn't hide away like Zubimendi did, he did try to play his game he was simply thoroughly outclased and put firmly in his place. Just couldn't compete with two genuine world class midfielders.

Rice is essentially an 11 second sprinter, put him up against practically anybody and he can look amazing, stands out easily above mediocrity and looks elite, then you put him in an Olympic 100m final against the worlds actual best and he'll fall way short of offering a genuine threat.

Issue with Rice is, he's playing in the 8 and he isn't good enough on the ball. All of his best moments are out of possession or when the ball is static (set pieces).

You do need players like this but in top top games you need players who can do both, like Rodri and Bernardo.

A top top side could probably use him but you need someone better in there with him like Rodri and Cherki to get hold of the ball. Zubimendi and Eze/Odegaard haven't been good enough and because they haven't been, Rice now doesn't look good enough.

I've said before that somewhere within Rice a decent player is waiting to express himself, but Lego will not take off the shackles and let him play his natural game. This is what Maureen has done at every club he has managed: stifled the creativity out of the players.

I know a fair few Arsenal players have been pulled to bits but i bet the majority of them players would thrive under Pep .............that team with them players should have walked this league and the reason if they should fail agsin is on the manager .......

Hmm have to disagree

None of their players are in the same tier of class as Haaland, Rodri, Donnarumma & Bernardo

Rice has an absolutely glaring weakness for an elite £100m footballer - he cannot play if he's facing his own goal. He's a box to box midfielder but not particularly effective in the final third. What he has is a great engine, solid reading of the game and a great set piece delivery. What he lacks is the ability to influence a game if he's got his back to goal and is under pressure, which tends to be part and parcel of playing in midfield at the top level. He's not great at finding space to enable himself to be facing the right way either.

He would be immense for us.
