I completely agreed with every line in this post until the last one.

They're in the semi final against Atletico Madrid. There's every chance they win that. We could actually do with two bruising encounters, extra time and penalties.

Paris St Germain or Bayern Munich in the final is a different prospect however. I don't see them beating either.

TBF to arsenal, any Spanish side in the CL get away with murder - particularly at home and it will be 12 against 11, until arsenal are reduced to 10 men for next to fuck all.
I actually wish them well, but hope they thoroughly knacker themselves out for subsequent league fixtures.
Obviously I hope they lose by about 6 goals in the final.

Apologies, let me explain. When I answered the poster who stated that Declan Rice would never play in a Champions League final, I wrote that there's every chance that they will beat Atletico. By stating that there's chance, it kind of goes without saying that there's also a chance that Atletico will win. What I didn't say was that Arsenal would definitely win the semi final. That would suggest that there is no chance of an Atletico win. That's how chance works. It's not exactly rocket science trying to interpret my post either and coming to the conclusion that I believe both teams have a chance of winning.

Rice has an absolutely glaring weakness for an elite £100m footballer - he cannot play if he's facing his own goal. He's a box to box midfielder but not particularly effective in the final third. What he has is a great engine, solid reading of the game and a great set piece delivery. What he lacks is the ability to influence a game if he's got his back to goal and is under pressure, which tends to be part and parcel of playing in midfield at the top level. He's not great at finding space to enable himself to be facing the right way either.

Shows up more when he plays for England that he can't take the ball on the half turn. Probably because he's playing alongside other midfielders who are the same.

It shows up when you watch him for Arsenal too mate. I watched them in the league cup final when we did that 4 man block. Rice didn't want to have anything to do with it. They signed him as a 6, had to use Partey in that role instead and then signed Zubimendi to do it. Arsenal were better on Sunday purely because they had worked out potential solutions for coping with our setup, which we were never going to change. Odegaard was happy to drop in at times, and Havertz was a threat from the long ball but Rice was still missing.

Same with England as you say - conversation under Southgate should have been Rice or Bellingham not both with a 6 and Foden out wide. Tuchel's seen that and Elliot Anderson plays the 6 role, Rice in the 8 and Bellingham in the conversation for that position or as a 10.

If he's got anyone near him then Rice hardly ever makes himself available to receive the ball from his defenders. He often hides behind a pressing attacker. Rodri will often demand the ball even if he's got a couple of players closing in on him.
