Arsenal v City post match thread

Thought we played well overall, a difficult game, dominated the first half, and disappointed we hadn't put it out of sight by half time. Then let them have 15-20 minutes of the second, the rest I thought we dominated without creating much. Pity we didn't have a striker playing today.

I thought our bookings took a bit of a toll to be honest, 3 key players booked meant they couldn't take the early risks when we were purring.

Hart 7
Zab 7
Kompany 8
Demichelis 8
Clichy 8
Fernandhino 7
Yaya 7
Silva 8
Nasri 7
Navas 7
Dzeko 5

Milner 6
Garcia 6
Negredo not on long enough

Lets be organised next week, because Southampton won't be easy.

The BBC headline sums it up for me, "Man City held at Arsenal".

We lost this game with 7 games to go in 2012 (on the back of 2 draws) to go 8 points adrift, yet we won it then, tonight we have 3 games in hand on the leaders and are only 2 points adrift, with Liverpool quite likely to be 4 points ahead, with us having 2 games in hand tomorrow.

If we win at Anfield its ours, a draw and its likely to be ours, a defeat and we can still recover.

Thought Sagna was arsenals best player tonight...
as he has been for most of the season, pity we didn't make a better job of stopping him.

We've already sorted that for next year anyway....

I thought it was a fair result. We were better first half, they were better 2nd half.

Toure was partly to blame for their goal, sloppily giving the ball away.

They looked more likely 2nd half to me.

If someone had given us the choice of taking 4 points before these two games we would have snapped heir hands off surely?

Thought Pellegrini might have gambled a bit more with his subs.

It's in our hands and Liverpools hands now. There will be twists and turns though. If Liverpool win 14 or whatever it is games on the run to win the title then they will have deserved it.

Win next week and at Anfield and its ours.

So they do have to depend upon us slipping up then.

No, because beating us is something they are involved in. Stop being dense.[/quot

I think it you who is dense. If they beat us then we have slipped up you buffoon.

They don't have to depend upon it if they are the opposition. Fuck me...

Chelsea blew it today, not us, could have been 5 clear. We were roughly evens for the win at utd and arse, so only a 1 in 4 chance of winning both.

First off, I think that was a decent point which we did well to keep hold of. Scoring so early on and not putting our foot down allowed Arsenal back on to us and they eventually got their reward. Pellegrini's bizarre substitutions were a low point and contributed to our eventual decline, but they also shored up the defence enough for us to come away with a hard point. Liverpool lost there, Chelsea failed to score there. We've also gained ground on Chelsea which we didn't expect to have this morning.

A chance to put our foot down wasn't taken today, sadly, but the game against Liverpool is only two games away and after that we'll have 18 points to play for. 5 of our remaining 8 games are at home and we finish the season with two successive home games. The three away games are all very difficult, but they are also grounds we can take points from.

I'm a little disappointed with the performance in all honesty, but after Tuesday I can forgive a little tiredness because we've come away from a derby and the Emirates with 4 points. We win those games in hand and we're 4 points clear - something Liverpool and the rest of the country seem to be forgetting. We're in the best position, with Liverpool close behind and Chelsea just behind them.

There's a long, long way to go yet.

2 points clear. We are 1 point behind Liverpool with a game in hand.

But our game in hand is...
Liverpool.

A few more twists and turns to go yet...

The game in hand over Liverpool can't be against Liverpool.

You twisted individual ;)

Not trying to be pedantic here, but complacency means a smug and uncritically satisfied opinion of one's self or one's achievements.

It's a pretty nasty accusation. You sure it's not just a really fucking tired group of players, after a very long season, who are crawling toward the finish line any which way they can? Fought on four fronts for a very long time, and fielded an unchanged side from a very hectic and emotional derby away on Tuesday. I'll hear the argument in the Dzeko thread if anyone wants to make the case, but otherwise I don't think I saw anyone out there who was smug and resting on his laurels. I think they're just tired footballers who can't play an 8 out of 10 twice a week.

Except for Silva. Silva isn't mortal, he was torn from the thigh of Zeus.

Well said.

-- Sat Mar 29, 2014 10:20 pm --

Professional performance imo. Looked solid apart from 1 or 2 close moments.

Anyone who can't see that taking 4 points from Old Trafford and The Emirates is an excellent return especially at this stage of the season is in all fairness a loon of huge proportions.

Added to this excellent week, Chelsea also took 0 points away from their game.

A fucking top week.

Does anyone know what the crack is re Kompany's yellow card today - does it put him close to a ban?
If he gets one more, suspension.

Didn't the sending off at Hull put him back on a 'clean' total though?

Thought we were fortunate to get a point tbh, not the worst result in the world not many teams this season have gone to the Emirates and got all 3 points. Still a game in hand over the scousers and still have to play them at their place. Just need to keep focused as it's still in our hands. CTID
