A cracking move by City to offer Sagna a 3-year contract days before we play Arsenal. *thumbs up*

If we get Sagna, Richards will go the other way, I am sure of that.
Why? Sagna is available on a free, Richards is under contract, he won't go anywhere we don't want him to.

na, he's not better than Zab, he's been nasty in the past and I'd rather have Coleman. Don't want Sagna.

He's not better than Zaba, but doesn't have to be (actually rates higher than Zaba on WhoScored if you take their 'statistics-based ratings' seriously). He just has to be an able rotation option which he definitely is. Good crosser, good defender, better than Micah I think we can agree and actually around to play football matches, easing the burden on Zaba.

Sure, Coleman would be a better option, but signing an older player leaves the door ajar for Smith-Brown, Maffeo (who could really go far) or one of our other highly promising RBs to break through if they're good enough. Which we have to do if we're serious about the whole holistic thing.

And from a FFP perspective, signing Sagna for free on similar wages to Micah and selling Micah for £8m-£10m would be cracking business and allow us to spend more money on important positions.

Coleman isn't going to sit on the bench behind Zaba though is he ? Same would apply for any top full back. We either have to bring someone up through the academy to replace Micah, or sign someone like Sagna who is old enough that they understand they won't play every week.

I do agree though that Coleman looks a top player.

On the Arsenal game - I'd pick the same team as last night.

You would hope at least some young players would understand the rationale that at a top club you'll still get plenty of games and he'll get to learn from the best in the business in his position, I'd rather do that than play every week for a worse side.

On Arsenal I think they'd be a lot happier facing Dzeko than someone with pace so I think it needs a Jovetic up front to unsettle them.

I just think Coleman is probably one level too high in terms of his quality already. The fact is that if he came here there's nothing to say that he wouldn't immediately displace Zaba. I dunno, for me I'd go with "if it ain't broke don't fix it". We need a back up r/b and Coleman isn't that.

Not sure why you think we need pace to beat Arsenal when they play with Mertesacker at the back. Dzeko's quicker than him and Dzeko's slow as fuck! I think the team will be be the same as last night with possibly the exception of Kun coming in for Dzeko depending on how fit he is and how much he trains between now and the weekend.

Re: City v Arsenal Pre Match Thread

To win the title I think we've got to win one of either this game or Liverpool. As Liverpool isn't likely, I really hope we can win this one. Gonna be tough, our record isn't great at the concrete bowl.

4 points from those two games and I'd be ecstatic.

You can't not play Dzeko after last night's performance. He's shown time and time again that he's a confidence player, well his confidence has probably never been higher than right now.

Dzeko to start, and score, Aguero on the bench if needed, hopefully though we'll be 2-0 up with 20 to go and can send Negredo on to keep their centre backs on their toes.

Re: City v Arsenal Pre Match Thread

Dzeko has to play in this one, he's in form now with 3 goals in his last 2 and his confidence is going to be sky high, Mertesacker and Vermaelen won't be able to contain his movement in the box and with how little defending Arsenals full backs seem willing to do we'll be able to get forward and get those low crosses in that he seems to thrive on for those first time finishes.

Completely agree, Pellegrini shows a lot of faith in players and is all about keeping them motivated and confident - to drop Dzeko would be a poor decision - he is in form, confident and scoring and it doesn't matter whether Aguero is fit or not we should start Dzeko and if Kun or Negredo can come on late in the game then fine but we shouldn't risk Aguero from the start and should show faith in Edin - he is better away from home than Negredo as well.
