You can take the train to Leeds, then go to London via Stevenage. Alternatively, you can go Manchester to Peterborough. Both options take you into Kings Cross rather than Euston, but that's no issue really as Kings Cross and Euston are less than 10 minutes walk (or one underground stop) from each other.
Leeds Stevenage generates the same engineering warning message online. I think next time I'm in Piccadilly Station I'll have a word with the enquiries
Definitely the best option is going through Leeds. You can get tickets on the Eastcoast website for £13 each way and £6 each way from manchester to leeds.
Last train to Leeds is 2235. Even allowing for a protracted penalty shoot out that should be late enough!
A full price return (leeds-kings cross) is £100 each, but with a two together railcard (useful if you always go away, on the train, with the same person, means it is £133 for two. Buy the railcard online and you can get it for £27. You're well in front just using it for Wembley!!
I have booked through Leeds, and bought additional tickets to get to Leeds and back. Going to be a long day
