Artemis II

I thought it was landing in the moon this time! Seems it’s a recon taking photos of areas for a landing next time! Shame but makes sense..

What's the point of it all though ? We LANDED on the moon more than FIFTY years ago ! This is hardly groundbreaking, total waste of time and money, it feels like the USA are trying to 'show' off...now if we were going to land on say 'Mars' i get it...

It’s bonkers as a human race we went to the moon 50 years ago and since then we haven’t gone any further and focused on the international space station instead. There are probably ulterior motives for it being just for show, the likes of China and the USA want the metals that can be mined from the moon which is probably why they are looking at going back there.

Strange isn’t it,Everest has been climbed numerous times I suppose that’s the only comparison/reasoning because it’s there ..

If humanity stopped doing stuff every time we've done it before then we'd grind to a quick stop.

New insights, knowledge and technology has moved on since then and there's more science to be done. It's a test for future flights to the moon in the hopes of one day having a base. It's also to test technology for deeper space flight. And all done at a fraction of the cost of the Apollo missions.

It's a NASA mission but there's been collaborations from space agency's from around the world to create the technology and engineering for it.

All has to be done in stages. Given the technology in my hand right now is more powerful than that which took man to the moon, it’s a miracle we did it in the first place. With modern tech I suppose it’s baby steps, starting with the moon, to get to mars and long after we gone, beyond that.

The space program has been sat on its arse for far too long to just bypass the moon and go to Mars. It’s very exciting to think this is just the start.

Cost was prohibitive. As was the technology to keep humans alive for extended periods in space. All the knowledge gained from focusing on the space station will be invaluable to allow for longer flights to the moon and maybe beyond. Though I still think going to Mars currently won't be feasible and if it was would be a suicide one way mission.

Not sure mining would ever be able to happen in much lower gravities. Though it won't stop private companies trying one day.

Rare Earth Minerals. The Moon is full of them, lunar samples have proven this.

Regarding Mars, having a launch pad on the Moon to get to Mars would be beneficial as the required amount of thrust to leave it's surface would be less costly due to it's lower gravitational pull. Naturally a developed Space Station base on the Moon would need to be established first.

We didn't cross oceans on a whim, we had to test if the boat would float first, and it's safer testing in a lake than on the sea.

The Speedmaster watch is on my bucket list if I ever win the lottery, specifically the Dark side of the moon edition. Little bit out of my price range at the minute at £13,500......View attachment 187893
I really like the original heselite Professionals, I've wanted one for years, along with several other watches. I've just bought myself another watch from my wishlist so the Speedy is going to have to wait a while yet...
