This just fucking sums it up. Nobody wants to own Brexit now.

"The brains behind the Brexit vote has admitted it might be possible that leaving the EU “will be an error” and the referendum itself was a “dumb idea”.

Dominic Cummings, the campaign director for the official Vote Leave campaign, claimed “other things should have been tried first” before the referendum was called - suggesting he would have backed further attempts at reform.

Cummings, a former advisor to Michael Gove in the Department for Education, also described the Government’s approach to Brexit as a “farce” and “chaotic”.

The last line is the one that should have the government hanging their heads in shame............... and worried. They are carrying the can for this one.

As Ive said before Brexit is a poisoned chalice......leave it to the Tories to cock up and then let them fade into history. No One will trust them after this (not that many do now)

I absolutely agree - true Karma would be let Boris become PM with Gove as his deputy as the Tory ship takes on Brexit water and descends into the deep - for good.

I suspect that it will be the general public that "carries the can" for it.

I'll be interested in seeing how many of the Brexit protagonists are in positions of accountability by the time the negotiations end. People such as Gisela Stuart, Nigel Farage, and Dominic Cummings are already fading out of the picture, so Davis/Fox/Gove/Johnson are those left in positions of power. Time will tell.

Hasn't Gisela Stuart already said the referendum should never have been held? Amazing how many of those who were certain - absolutely certain - that Brexit was a good thing and now with hindsight don't. They shouldn't be allowed to dodge responsibility for their part in the deception that took place in that campaign

Agreed, mate. We had a referendum on such an enormous issue for us all, and none of the campaigners for change had any ownership or responsibility for the result and its implementation. That's why they got away with the deception, and they all ran to the hills when they got the result most of them didn't even really expect or want.

One or two, including the press, have tried to deflect by blaming the "Big bad EU" for making Britain's life difficult and having the temerity to look after their own, rather that Britain's interests. Don't they know we are now Great again and should be treated accordingly.

What have we done to ourselves? How did this happen? Unless common sense prevails I sense bitter national soul-searching and recriminations in the future.

Mick Barnier putting the boot in today.
The only Brexit is lose/lose, economically bad for the EU, a crisis for us, no special or bespoke trade deals for the UK.

pure disaster this. but its best we just go. just leave and do no deal with them. i don't get why we need them anyway. surely we can just do some deals with other countries once we are out of this whole mess.

If May would have come out and said that then people would have been complaining that she was sabre rattling. I couldn't care less what Barnier thinks if that's his attitude, just wish we had voted to leave earlier. He sounds like he's going to cut of his nose to spite his face and if that's what the EU wants then hand them the knife.
