no other fans take themselves quite so trivially

Football would be a lot healthier if more fans adopted their never-say-live attitude. Unlike their rivals across Manchester, City fans do not demand to watch an Oscar-nominated Hollywood blockbuster every fortnight

The only unique team in Manchester is City

the Mancunian who says they support City gains instant respect.

We've been through so much for 25 years that nothing hurts us

Enjoyable read - let's dream of success, not demand it, and not forget who we are.

every new or newish or young fan coming into the fold should read that.going to save it for my son when he is old enough to read it.nearly brought a tear to my eyes with pride, on the strength of it i am going getting some stoke tickets

Brilliant read. Just reminded me of why i am a blue and i found myself pining for the good old days. As previously stated, every young blue should read that and realise just how lucky we are. At the same time we do need to retain what is left of our humility and humour. Its dying off quickly and with it the very essence of who we are.
I for one do not want every team in the land to hate us like they do them lot. I want success as much as anyone but not at the cost of our soul.
It would be nice to think that if or when all this goes tits up that we would still be getting 40k+ and still be singing self ridicule anthems. I cant see it though.
Instead of the humour and banter enjoyed at Maine rd we now sing shit like "we'll buy your club.." and by doing so we are killing off the very essence of what this great club and fans are about.

Lets just be thankful for what we have got and hold on to the fear that one day it may all be gone.

Love City

A good article that serves to remind us that people always love the underdog provided they don't get ideas above their station. I wonder how the reporter would view us today...still the same happy go lucky club with a good fan base and a strong sense of humour...or as arrogant classless upstarts with the audacity to break the top 4 hegemony and who are ruining the game in the process... I know which one I'd prefer.

(the latter in case you were wondering)

But why can't we be happy go lucky and have a strong sense of humour whilst being successful, the two things shouldn't be mutually exclusive.
