I remember telling a fellow Blue at work the day after that Arsenal game that it was one of those games you had to be at. Told him that the City fans were hilarious that night.
He was so puzzled. His response was, "But we got hammered". Told him again, "You had to be there to appreciate it".
Bet he's the type who comes on here whinging!

It was the funniest game I've been to. Some of the stuff we sang to the Arsenal fans was hillarious.

I also remember the time when we were about to sign Robbie Fowler from Leeds, and played Leeds at Maine Road. The whole crowd were on their feet signing "there's only one Robbie Fowler" whenever he warmed up. Bernstein and Bird quit over that signing didn't they?

Eeee, them were the days eh?

Brilliant read. Just reminded me of why i am a blue and i found myself pining for the good old days. As previously stated, every young blue should read that and realise just how lucky we are. At the same time we do need to retain what is left of our humility and humour. Its dying off quickly and with it the very essence of who we are.
I for one do not want every team in the land to hate us like they do them lot. I want success as much as anyone but not at the cost of our soul.
It would be nice to think that if or when all this goes tits up that we would still be getting 40k+ and still be singing self ridicule anthems. I cant see it though.
Instead of the humour and banter enjoyed at Maine rd we now sing shit like "we'll buy your club.." and by doing so we are killing off the very essence of what this great club and fans are about.

Lets just be thankful for what we have got and hold on to the fear that one day it may all be gone.

Love City
That's bang on how I feel mate!

Been in pubs when weve out sang the rags. The reaction was you got beat yes we know so we sang even pouder ha ha

The op more or less sums up why I am a lifelong blue,
I always thought (metaphorically speaking!) the rags fans were sort of on a big posh coach sat quietly & well behaved, knowing exactly were there were going & took it for granted they would always be winning things, very boring,
Where as us blues were on a mistery tour on some dodgy old bus but we were having a great time getting pissed up making a lot of noise & having a laugh.
Not so sure now but I like to think through all the changes we can keep the spirit that is city.

Well, well, quite the transformation in attitude towards us from Liverpool fans in the last 18 years.

The article may really surprise some younger fans but, yes, that's how we were once viewed by many Liverpool fans. Oh, how they used to love us and ruffle our hair. That is until, of course, we became a good football side and the goodwill was shown up to be patronising tripe. Wishing us all the best but then when the best happens, they go flying into a fit of envy and hate.

They just don't like competition or anyone challenging their perceived God-given right to glory.

Who would ever have believed when that article was written that we would have won the league 4 times and the scousers wouldn't have won it once. (apart from the October cup obviously)
