It's Goal, yeah I know... But apparently, Goal reckons we're diving for Arturo.

Great player but don't see where he fits now we have Garcia, Yaya, Barry, Milner and Rodwell for central midfield. Unless he is going to start selling players.

Take Yaya out of that list of players and it shows how average our midfield really is, we need someone like Vidal.

One of the best midfielders in Europe now. This player is the real deal!

Well he's a different sort of player to most of them. We buy too many midfielders with similar attributes, Vidal is a true all-round midfielder from everything I've seen, even more than Yaya (not saying he is better) as he can tackle better. He also has great stamina and can perform at a high tempo for 90 minutes. He was excellent against Chelsea too the other week.

Unfortunately with Financial Fair Play a concern, I think Juventus will simply price us out. They are one of the few Italian teams who won't sell easily and he is their best midfielder.

Ok. But if Vidal is to come in we would have to sell at least two of them players. I can't see that happening and nor can i see Juve selling Vidal for anything less than 30m or so.

Where did Juve sign him from? and why were we not in for him then?
Was from Bayer Leverkusen, think he became hot property after the World Cup.

They signed him from Leverkusen a year ago for around £8million. Even a year ago it was clear he was a fantastic player so that was a great price. A year later and his value is pushing £30million, I'm envious of teams who can do deals like this. We did it once with Kompany and Hart, we tried again with Savic and ended up giving him and £12million for the player we probably should have signed from Partizan instead...

Hopefully the recruitment of Frank Arnesen's son will allow us to look more at the Bundesliga again for players.

Cheers LC,it's clear the scouting network isn't what it should be as otherwise we'd be buying the likes of this guy early doors.
We seem to either buy players at the top end of their value or untested youngsters,so just why aren't we in for guys like this, the middle rung if you like, who are showing the quality and will improve? Who is our head scout??

Very frustrating and ultimately expensive.Lets hope we have a winner with Nasty!

I think Clichy's price is a success story.

LoveCity i see what your saying about signing a good proven player for a cheap fee upfront but being who we are now this is going to be near impossible.

Every player we go for will immediately alert the players club that we rate him and so will change the price accordingly. We are seen as the biggest cash cow in football at the moment, especially when I imagine in negotiations the club pulls up the fees we paid for Lescott, Milner and so on.

True he was a great signing at a great price but I think the circumstances were a little different because of his expiring contract. I would still consider him a great bargain (as Arsenal probably undervalued him thinking he just wasn't that good anymore) but the best bargains are those like Hart and Kompany I feel, the ones where the club's scouting network truly earns it's money.

We will have to pay a premium for many players but for example had we gone for Vidal and paid £12million compared to Juventus' £8million that still would have been a major bargain. Not every owner of every club will charge us extortionate prices, we have a habit of targeting players at clubs who do though. Say we went for Benat from Betis as an example, Betis are stricken by debt and we could probably get a Spanish international who is better than most English midfielders for under £10million. It all depends on who and from where. If we try to buy Vidal from Juventus now we'll have to pay his maximum value to have any chance whereas a year ago we could have gotten him for a reasonable price even with the City tax on top.

I see what your saying.

There are of course some still "hidden" gems that we could pick up and will be good players for us but Mancini is at the moment very focused on buying the cream of players in Europe with the big reputations and prices. He wanted Hazard and RvP for example in the summer whereas maybe another manager would have gone for someone to just improve the squad not key first team players.

The thing with Vidal though he wasn't some unknown like Tiote before he came the Premier League. He was one of the Bundesligas best players, Bayern Munich were desperate to sign him but Leverkusen didn't want to sell to a rival add to that a expiring contract we could have easily got him for 10m. What does it say about Mancini that he is now desperate to sign him after he moved to Juventus even though Serie A is poorer league to the Budesliga.

We need some one like Vidal O Benat

Or if Sahin has a good season and finds his form may be we can go for him

We need a deep lying playmaker and yaya should be pushed further up the pitch

Best thing about Goal.com is the comments:

not for sale... wait maybe both clubs can make a deal, something fair for vidal would be: aguero + dzeko + kompany + 40M

NO DEAL

Vidal has been a very good player for a while; I guess he had his heart set on Serie A though (Juve, Milan etc are still a big lure for a lot of players) as no doubt several PL clubs would willingly have taken him when he left Leverkusen.

If he decides he wants to try the PL in the future, then sure we'll be in for him.
