'As A City Fan', Would You Like To See Safe Standing Introduced At The Etihad?

Why is it the last thing anyone needs? From a customer's view it's brilliant - get to go and sit with your mates, can move around to different sections so you're near a bar one time or family stand if you bring your kid etc.
Being 'unreserved' would immediately kill the idea. The authorities will want to know who is in the stadium, and where they are allocated. As I understand the German module, standing supporters are allocated a place as they would be if they had paid for a seat. The idea that any old soul could just turn up at the gate, pay their money and stand just where they wanted would be inviting a throw back to the troubles of the 70s. Other than that, standing would be welcomed by me providing those areas allocated to away supporters are at the opposite end of the ground to home standing supporters.

Hillsborough......many contributory factors,INCLUDING late arriving, ticketless, pissed up dippers. They then moved on to Hysell, you know, the disaster that's been erased from their 'istree !! There,I've gone and said it.

The experiences of pub landlords in Sheffield & The Peak District are illuminating.

got your timeline a bit wrong there fella.

In Germany it's unreserved, you buy a ticket to that block and just go wherever you can. In Dortmund's stadium, for example, the lower part of their 'yallow wall' is an old fashioned terrace, it's only the back half that has railing in (which is what the FSF are proposing here).

Not really sure about your point to be honest. At most EFL clubs you can go and pay on the day so that's not an issue (the stadium still has a limited amount of tickets so people would have to buy early or risk the game selling out - like it is now). I don't really see how you can think it would throw us back to the 70's. CCTV is miles ahead of what it was, Britain has changed significantly in that time. If you went to Maine road you'll know that you couldn't compare the old Kippax to what would be unreserved standing at Eastlands? Considering you are allowed unreserved attendance at nearly every other event imaginable (including concerts and the magic weekend that have taken place at our stadium) I can't see it being a huge hurdle with police.

I think as long as the games are all ticket and there are limits placed on numbers on each row there's no reason to believe that there's any need for allocated spaces. As you say, modern CCTV is a game changer in terms of proactive and reactive crowd control and enforcement.

As one who lived and went to football through the 70s and 80s I've always been dead against any return to standing - once we found out how successful football became without it.

But I'm willing to listen to all the arguments these days.

I have 2 remianing concerns.

Firstly it's the general non-family attitude it creates. Not saying we want family stands everywhere but people who attended the war zones of the past with no women and hardly any non-chavvy kids will know exactly what I mean. It could start a very gradual decline in popularity/attendances.

Secondly it's the increased 'mobility' - I'm sure we will find it will be easier from these areas to run toward the opposition fans en masse.

I'm sure it will be passed and time will tell.

what locals ? poorer people ? mancunians ?, how in any way does having a standing section and more singing create a non family attitude ? as a kid that was the best bit of going to games.. there will still be women and children attending. in my opinion though we need that type of fan back in the ground - the young lads who create the atmosphere. that already happens in big games now and the standing section will most likely be in the north stand anyway.

As a wheelchair user, I absolutely demand safe standing :D :D :D

But seriously, I really would like to see standing reintroduced. Having said that, we still need to find a way to get the atmosphere going better than we are.

Heysel happened before Hillsborough pal. What happened at Hillsborough could have happened to any fan. That ground and its policing were wholly inadequate.

Agreed on first point.

Not sure about point two. Liverpool fans were completely lawless at that time, always storming gates, jabbing in & arriving pissed and late.

Unfortunately it's usually the innocent that suffer. On Merseyside Hysell has been erased from 'istree. Shamefull !!

I understand what you're saying but it was t fan behaviour that caused the disaster
