AS Monaco (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Part of our problem with substitutions seems to be to be that the selected teams are like jigsaws where all the pieces fit together and unfortunately their replacements don’t quite fit the planned game pattern.

Sorry pal but bollocks.
Have a watch of Chelsea vs Brighton on MOTD.
Full on kick in the face in the box, no penalty to Brighton cos fat Hooper can't keep up.
Var look and agree no penalty, kick in the face, high boot whatever
Wasn’t in Europe though. Don’t disagree it wasn’t a pen for me but you see softer ones given all the time in this shite

Doku should have stayed on the pitch 100%, Bernardo Silva out wide right continuously is mind boggling.

Bobb done more in 15 minutes last weekend than Savinho has done in 75 against Burnley, Pep seems to like Savinho even though he's a lazy ****, he doesn't help out defensively and offers absolutely nothing going forward.

Yes we had chances to kill the game off, it doesn't take away the fact the for large parts of that game especially the second half we couldn't really be arsed to go and kill the game off, we were happy enough to keep possession and see the game out which is a dangerous game at 2-1.

We done the same against Brighton a few weeks ago and it came back to bite is on the arse, same happened tonight.
Correct and it's infuriating, and then we've got Haaland complaing about his teamates, yet he did sod all (with no service) in the second half. 2 players tried very hard, NOR and Phil, there was a lot of "safe" rubbish elsewhere for me.

Nico actually got the ball so good challenge for me. VAR didn’t need to get involved as it wasn’t clear and obvious but I can guarantee that at the other end of the pitch we would not have got that decision.
If Var had gotten involved, we would have. In fairness to the ref, he didn't call it in teal time. But once you watch it in slow mo only blue tinted lenses would push one to conclude anything other than Penalty.

You’re welcome to your opinion, absolutely.

God forbid people disagree with it and call you out if they do.

Chat rooms on the internet have been around for many years. Learn how they work would be my advice.
Learn how to fuck off would be my advice but c'est la vie

Doku has a history of muscular injuries and has rarely played 3 games a week for us. Rodri is coming back from a long term injury. Stones is made of glass. Tell me why taking those three off for Savinho, Nico and Nunes is baffling?
Spot on sir, and given the options we had on the bench they were the best subs to come on. You can possibly make a case for Bobb over Savinho but he wasnt the reason for that daft VAR manufactured penalty.

Nunes is shite but him or Rico at Right back were our only options due to Khusanov's injury and our failure to address a dire area of need. I know Nunes or Rico is like asking if you want the turd sandwich or the urine soup as a choice but what other choice did Pep have there? Im amazed Stones lasted 70 mins and he was looking tired. Im no fan of Savinho either but Doku was nowhere near it tonight and Rodri was blowing out of his arse after 50 mins - you wont see the best of him until 2026 at the earliest.

Ait nouri and Gvardiol aren’t particularly quick, Khusanov and Nunes are, but neither are right backs.

The defence is a mess let’s be frank.
I disagree completely on Ait Nouri, he’s got good pace. Gvardiol isn’t rapid but he’s god a decent turn of pace. As for Khusanov not being a RB, no he’s not and his long term future is at CB but he’s good enough to play RB.

I think the defence needs work but to call it a mess is a bit of an exaggeration.

That was a classic European night.

Away from home, referee gives them everything.

We absolutely dominate. Hit the bar twice, have a tonne of shots and good chances.

Opponent gets some absolutely crazy penalty decision that has never happened before and will never happen again.

And the referee has never heard of a clock and has no concept of time, so blows up 2 minutes early.

Carve it into stone and hang it up in the training ground, because this is the essence of the Champions League. It is the way it has always been and it is the way it always will be.
Wow a poster making some sense ? It must be as big of a miracle as Monaco getting that penalty at the end.

Tactically poor tonight in the second half. Happy to try and pass ourselves to the win rather than going for the jugular.

Blue specs off it's a call you really can't go out on a ledge over and lose your mind about as there's reasonable debate for it being given either way and you can bet roles reversed and it was not given to us this board would be even more irate than it is.

My issue is ref waved away early appeals and he himself overturning it happened (unless misremembering) after he handed out two reds to the city staff - feel that takes it more into the dodgy decision category than the actual play in and of itself.

He was poor tonight but the amount of space bernardo had, you give that to doku and we are creating multiple more chances
He plays Bernardo as he feels he gives the team more control, and he has to do that because Bobb, sav, and Doku give you no control whatsoever. I’m not saying it’s the right approach, but he won’t play sav and Doku together as both are a liability in posesssion.

We just don’t have the right mix of wide options at the moment.
