Give him a chance.

What i mean is not Ait-Nouri at left back, but the system Pep likes
Unless you're like Walker with pace to burn in recovery and getting back and covering both centre-backs, then it's dodgy playing somebody as cover,

Look, Pep will say 18 trophies says he's right and who am I to say you're wrong, but it took 2 or 3 seasons for Pep to build that squad of players that went on the amazing run of trophies,

The only question is, does Pep have 3 more years in him at City

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but looks like we still don’t have a penalty-saving goalkeeper. Committed himself way too soon.) Thought Dyer would side foot it so it was only going one way (and not the way Donnarumma went!) Hopefully we don’t concede another one on Sunday! Probably would have taken a draw before kick-off but very disappointing not to see it out (and not for the first time this season!)

Not looking to go against the grain just for the sake of it but I'm surprised by the amount of posters who thought that was a good performance. We passed it ok, both sides had half chances and both goalkeepers had saves to make.

I felt we really lacked a killer instinct and the ability to create proper clear cut chances, again, certainly in the numbers we once did. Basically I feel that if we turn the clocks back 4 or 5 years, we win that game 5-1. Monaco aren't a great side.

As for their equaliser at the end. Felt it was never a foul which led to the free kick, but it was a foul which led to the penalty.

Foden was good. Halland scored 2 excellent goals. I'm sort of struggling after that, O'Reilly done ok too I guess.

he’s fuming, never seen him like that

That’s now Erling fuming , Rodri pissed off at the start of the season and Bernardo calling out the team last season something isn’t right.

Bernardo is in his last season at City as you well know. Speed isn't everything.

What is the point of saying that we lack pace at centre-half unless its Khusanov. Khusanov is our player and no doubt we bought him specifically because of his particular strengths.
In saying it because Bernado is playing most weeks and looks like he’s running through treacle. Half the time on the right side offering us nothing down that side apart from workrate and retaining the ball. Zero penetration.

Oh right, So we’ve got one quick centre half who plays very few games at centre half. Teams can run in behind us on a regular basis due to our er, lack of pace there. As the conversation was about pace it kind of seemed relevant.

Deserved the win and coukd have had 5 goals. We played ok, still a couple of gears to go but we’re improving.

Ref was an absolute cockwomble. About time we started calling it out. The non penalty from the non free kick was one of the worst bits of refereeing I’ve seen.

This season is gonna be a roller coaster.

I feel like we are stilll stuck in last season at times, where every win papers over a crack.

New signings this season I thought would improve is. The January signings I thought would adapt to Pep ball.

But all in all we are in for another frustrating season IMO.

We are still making the stupid mistakes of last season and Pep is making even more bizarre substitutions - if that was at all possible.

Hardly any players improving and our laboured play is back.

because someone got the ball doesnt mean its not a foul
That is true but it contributes to who was most likely to reach the ball first, i.e. was it 50/50 or 75/25? For a 50/50 then a high foot would be more likely to contact the opponent whereas the 75/25 you start to consider if the opponent was just throwing themselves into the challenge.

Well is that a problem to lay at the feet of Gvardiol. He’s a decently quick CB with a lot of good qualities. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water because if we got rid of him you can bet there’d be a queue of teams willing to take him.

The problem is the midfield like you say. I don’t care how quick your CB’s are, if any half decent team are allowed to play the ball into forward on the run against a high line you’ve got problems
Yeah, not suggesting for one minute we get rid of him mate.

I really don’t think that’s fair to Monaco. Personally, I was very impressed with their pressing and shape without the ball. Their press had us rattled that whole second half.
They were physical and held their shape, but that’s what we should have expected.

Thought our passing was poor all night, especially when playing out of the back, and I lost count of the number of sloppy passes we made that lost us possession.

We made it difficult for ourselves and the team was horribly unbalanced with Stones and Bernado offering nothing at all on the right and Monaco doubling up on Doku.

Enlighten me. Is soccer the same as football?
No it’s a brain dead abbreviation for Association Football as Rugger is for Rugby Football.

It a North American habit we could do without. They even refer to Hockey as Field Hockey to avoid confusion with the game they call Hockey which appears to be two teams on an ice rink beating the shit out of each other with sticks.

We're not at the level of Barca, PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern any more.

We need to improve our playing squad by whatever means possible and it won't be a flick of a switch.

A lot of our fans are really stupid. This is an elite competition and we are not an elite side any more but we can be again. There are already signs this season that we are improving. That's all we need to see to remain patient.

I wouldn't put too much hope in Cherki. He'll most likely need time to adapt. It's possible he might start on the right.

I am not angry. As I was watching that game, I knew that Monaco would very likely equalise.

We are short of where we want to be but at the same time last season we were conceding 4 to Sporting away from home. I don't see that happening this season. We are a work in progress with shortcomings. The shortcomings will get dealt with.
“A lot of our fans are really stupid.”

Really? I wish I had the same misguided self confidence in my own opinion.

Why you trying to be contrary? I agree with you that it shouldn’t have been a penalty. Everyone knows they give penalties for next to nothing in Europe and for ball touches hand it’s absolutely ridiculous. No there’s not a rule that i’ve seen anyway that says it will be different in Europe but it clearly is
no worries
