i'm not really here
they hold £99 on your card while you put in whatever amount say £20 then the hold is canceled and they take there £20,so tonight i put £16 in around 5pm and just checked my account and they have taken £99, what do i do? go to the bank or ASDA or will my acount update at some point

First of all, empty any savings or other assets into your account. Then PM me the account number and passwords and I'll have a look. Otherwise I won't be able to get the materials I need to finish your driveway/double glazing/extension, meaning if it rains I'd have to knock your house down.

Simple,
Brick the windows and torch the gaff!

Surely this must be illegal? Not overcharging, although they have obviously robbed you, but the very practice of doing this.

It should resolve itself, but keep an eye on it and raise it with your bank if it does not today.

Can you imagine any other practice doing this, or even Asda themselves asking for a £99 deposit whilst you do your food shop, just in case you pinch something!

Our work switched fuel policy for company cars from being bought on company card to being bought on personal card and claimed back at a later date, for tax' reasons. Little did they consider that employees driving a few hundred miles per week now need to have a few hundred quid in their personal account to facilitate company trips, and then put up a few days of skimping whilst we wait for the money back. No wonder everybody uses Microsoft Teams nowadays instead.

And the receipt function usually isn’t working . It’s either broken or prints in invisible ink which accountants/HMRC love.

Tesco take a quid, then 48 hours later the remaining amount comes out. Fucked my account up many times thinking I had more in than I actually had.

It’ll likely be a pre authorisation rather than a debit.

I’m with Starling and these authorisations are labelled differently to completed transactions. They disappear after a day or two.

Your banking app may show them differently I guess.

I never use pay at pump for these reasons, can’t be arsed with it.

While this advice is the standard BM solution to many problems might I suggest a little caution is required when torching a petrol station. Perhaps wearing a hi-viz vest would be a start.
Actually it is very hard to torch a petrol station. OK the shop bit is easy but the pumps themselves have built in safely features. I know this because some years ago, some dick had a dispute with a petrol station so he stuffed a petrol soaked rag into the fuel nozzle, lit it and ran. It burnt out with no damage bar a bit of melted plastic.

You put £16 in at pump 1, where were you going, Pump 4?

Can you jib petrol ?
Yes

Apparently what was happening was that a bank account only needed the pre authorisation amount to allow you to get fuel (usually up to £99) and this used to be £1.

Couple of days later the payment declines as they only had the quid in the bank and not the amount to cover the cost of the fuel taken.

Might be worth using a credit card instead of the debit card as the money is returned back sooner.

Pisses me off having to wait for money to get returned for security/mini bar deposits when I use hotels.

As others have said, avoid pay at pump as it isn't worth the hassle for small amount of time saved.
