Ashes 2017/18

the base is set on cook opening the batting its a free wicket for them and then we are in the shit how many can you count on in that line up to make big runs NONE england will be bowled out for cheap runs tomorrow with a new ball only a couple of overs old its easy pickings for them in the morning england need 400 runs every first innings to have any chance in winning a test over there and just sitting in makes me think england are weak in the batting order you have to score heavy and quick and put them under pressure and england just played into there hands with slow runs and just staying in

seen to much of the same old england to see it happening again this winter and its too late now to do anything about it england should have built a new team last 2 summers but just went for the old guard and hope to god cook and root make runs its not good enough even facing a bang average australia who will just bounce england out on there pitches its set in stone

Unfortunately mate you were absolutely correct.

Prefectly poised, test completely in the balance.

Once again, the first session tomorrow will be key when we get the new ball.

Think Australia just shading it personally. They bat deeper than we do so going to have to be a good morning session if they aren't going to lead after the first innings.

They bat deeper and ain’t Brain dead like ours giving there wickets away.
I'm not sure they do bat deeper tbh. Anyway got to hand it to Smith for battling away when his team are deep in the shit. The thing with him is he is very good at turning 50's into centuries. If he does that tomorrow they will get the 400+. Then with a decent lead i will only see one result.

Get Smith early and its game on though.

Unfortunately mate you were absolutely correct.

the top of the batting order is shocking and like i said you have to get runs on the board and quick if not the tail are in and they will bounce us out in no time its in there DNA the ashes over there never changes the wicket is made for them with pace and bounce and forget swing over 6ft big tall bowlers that can bounce it are the key

maybe there is a light in the end of the tunnel and they are not that much better than us and if england can bowl tight and hold there catches then maybe we have a chance but the top of the opening batting for england need to look at themselves and just play there game and not try to just sit in for 6 hours

As far as Ashes series go this is between 2 pretty dire sides but that in itself may make it a close series and exciting to watch.

I think the phrase of the series is going to be 'the first hour tomorrow is going to be crucial'. That will be repeated endlessly as the sides are pretty evenly matched leading to very even contests.

They can’t get more than 50 runs in front that’s worse case scenario hopefully we get 2 early Wickets tonight.

I don't want to argue for dropping Cook but I don't think Hameed has been given anything like a decent go at it. 3 matches as test opener, averaged over 43, broke his thumb (I think) which meant he had to drop out of the rest of the tour and hasn't been given a sniff since.
Sorry only just seen this. Totally agree he's not but with form and more importantly injury I'd say it's been pretty much impossible to get him back in. He'll be our next after Root to get 10k runs imo

i have a feeling the wicket is getting better and if you get in you can score big runs and steve smith the captain is in and going well and could take away the game from england on his own tomorrow he scores big tons and double tons so anything like that and anything over 100 runs lead england lose its that simple

the ashes this summer was there for england to win but england can not face bounce or spin bowling we just crumble under pressure and on the back foot i seen it for a long time and if the open 3 don't get runs and quick the tails does not wag and we fall a part its clear we have not done our homework and they know it and every time england looked like getting a foot in the door they change the bowling style and bounce it around the nose and bingo we are all out

the first day of a new tour and you set you ground for the rest of the series with just sitting in and slow run rate shows weakness and giving them the upper hand and they know now we have done nothing to improve our batting with bounce and this is the slowest pitch england will bat on good luck in the next 4 test

'The Ashes are for the taking'? Not really. Our attack is limited and the top order has not been solid for a fair while. For a while we have lacked consistency over the duration of a series against good teams. It may not be the strongest Aussie team but they are not very weak either. It's never a given beating the Aussies down under without a very strong team.

We have clearly prepared. For example, we clearly had a plan for Warner by cutting off his supply of his stock boundaries that he likes to accumulate early on. He got frustrated and lost his wicket.

I think a little bit of cowardice has killed England's chance. The wicket was going to get better and quicker and they were scared of being unable to bowl the Aussies out before the pitch dried out, meaning their first innings would have been on a quick pitch batting second. So they've bottled the challenge, scored barely 300 at a snail's pitch on a plodding wicket and still managed to underachieve, just to avoid facing Starc and Cummins on a quicker pitch for as long as possible.

We need to bowl them our within the first two sessions otherwise, in the words of Brian Clarke, it’ll be Goodnight Vienna.
