Ashes 2017/18

England have a major problem in that they don't have many match winners in Aussie conditions with the Duke ball. Cook, the only one who will score big hundreds often, doesn't look right. The rest of the batsmen look like they can get 50's but that's not enough. We really could do with Stokes just to strengthen that lower order because bowlers like Starc and Cummins will destroy the current tail and in recent series runs from the lower order have been crucial. Bowling is very much the same, we have players that will bowl well, keep it tight and take one or two wickets. But we don't have bowlers that can rip through a team and cause a collapse that will win games, it's very much just chipping away and playing on their weaknesses. I think England are pretty close to being a really good team but not just now in these conditions. I think most games will be tight and we'll win a test but Australia will win this match and probably the series 3/4 - 1.

i keep having to say it cook is going to win the ashes for them and any half-wit can see it opening the innings is not only key to winning over there its taking the new ball away from the middle to tail batters its a small time frame but 20 to 30 overs and the ball goes soft its also why you need to score quick runs at the start when the ball will fly to the boundary

any chance of england winning will now take somebody to stand up and make himself a hero and score big runs and england to bat all day and put over 300 on the board or hope to god the weather comes into the game and takes time out for them to knock off the runs

Just an English thing to do, all they needed to do was take 3 tail end wickets within 40/50 runs and they ended up conceding a 50 run lead. It's going to be Root v Smith and at the moment Smith has put his cards on the table and Root has to go out and bag 150 tomorrow. This is where Root's career will be judged, Cook has lived for 6 years off of one great tour, but Smith is carrying his Sheffield Shield batting line-up and Root has to do the same with his county side. Difference is the Aussies have 2 world class pace bowlers. Finn's demise hurts England and they still haven't replaced Tremlett who was a key part of the success down here back in 2010/11.

It's very frustrating how that day panned out after getting into a position of dominance in that first session but at the start of play I think I would have just about taken a 26 run deficit on the first innings. Cook's decision making for his dismissal was an absolute embarrassment. No idea why such an attacking batsman like Smith is able to completely reign in his instincts in order to save his team but our batsmen are happy to keep hooking and pulling short balls to fielders and drop their team in the shit. Will we ever learn? Still, if we can keep our wickets intact for the first hour tomorrow then it should become easier for the batsmen and there is potential to stay right in the game. Continue with the short ball brain farts and we will lose by tea tomorrow.

again we know what the score is tomorrow for england will be bowled sorry bounced out cheaply and lose the only saving grace would be the weather and lets all start a rain dance going to bed tonight (england needs you)

One good partnership to get the lead over 150. Every run counts double from that point and there are cracks appearing in the pitch. Not over yet.
More of a worry is Jimmy holding his side and looking laboured.

Seem like a wicket where you can’t go all out attack it’s about sticking around and set out to last the day

Get the feeling this a huge first hour. Just showed that 230 is the highest ever 4th inning run chase, so anything over a 200 lead gives us a chance.
