Ashes 2017/18

The recent results have masked the problems. We are too reliant on Anderson/Root/Ali and Stokes.

Yep been watching England for a long time and I can see where an away test series is going to go especially in Australia and this series is going to be 5-0 or 4-1 like someone as posted already can’t see us getting 20 wickets or 400 runs. It’s unbelievably we ain’t got a bowler who can consistently bowl 90+ speeds in county cricket

come home now its only going to get a lot worst this wicket was the slowest england will face on this tour so good luck on facing real bounce and spin

i said in the past 2 years england should have built a team that can bat in the next ashes tour you could see it spin and bounce and england just don't have a answer and we was winning easy at home with swing bowling and nice and easy wickets to bat on but you knew come the ashes they would ruff us up and bounce us out. its not hard to see its always the same over there the heat and weather and the pitches you need big tall bowlers forget swing your fighting a losing battle if your hoping it moves around in the air

if cook and root don't put a score on the board england will lose its simple the rest just don't have what it takes over there they know what they take there wicket they are over joyed and high fives and hug's they know the rest will just give them there wicket without a fight. nothing ever changes over there and on the first day of the ashes you knew what the rest of the series is going to be like and england just sat in and offered nothing to say we are here to fight you can not change that in a week or two its what happens in the build up to the ashes 2 years before

we should have built a team around players who can bat in 20/20 who score quick runs and face bounce even if you get bowled out in the first day you get a score on the board of over 350 to 450 and put them on the back foot make them change there lines give them something to think about and take them out of there comfort zones its simple

i think we will get 5.0 whitewashed and fingers will be pointed at root and not the ECB but we need to change the board of cricket over here and start again and build a team of youth and the old guard but to bed even if we lose for the next couple of series so what built something that can play on any wicket and not just at home with swing

The problem is it was Strauss and the ECB's ego that got rid of the old-guard, crippling Trott and fucking KP off and then the instigators repaid them by either retiring or their form dropping off a cliff. Which has lead us to patching the remaining few with county...sorry youngsters, who have shown to not have the talent or temperament to be a truly top class team. The 2 gingers are looking at police investigations and the rest would struggle to have batted in D1 5 years ago.

The counties are all producing the same type of bowler and the spinners are just being given wickets that suit them now, and even still it's Batty who's one of the top guys.

T20 is also crippling test cricket and that's shown through in both sides.

Apparently Bairstow nutted the Aussie opener earlier this month. It seems we’ve got serious disciplinary issues within the team. May aswell fly stokes out and start scrapping with the Aussies, we won’t beat them playing cricket.

England are a pretty good home team & would possibly win it in their own conditions.

Without those conditions, the strike bowlers are too slow/unfit, the spinners don't spin it enough & the batsmen struggle to perform vs decent purveyors of either.

This team though, like the BT coverage, could be a lot better with the right personnel.

Australia have as many problems as us and if this was in England we'd be favourites to win. If Root and Cook are our only hope then we really are in the shit because neither have scored too many big hundreds to win games in the past couple of years. We're going to compete and we'll put ourselves in decent positions but we don't have anyone who will kick the doors down so to speak.

The day / nighttest evens that game up a bit and depending what the Duke does under lights maybe it will even give England the advantage. If we can nick that test and get Stokes back out for the third test all might not be lost.

I'm not too disappointed in this test simply because it's gone as expected. Aussies are better in all aspects of bowling and in Smith they have a match winning batsman. I don't think England have performed badly as such, they've performed to expectation. The only hope they have is that there are plenty of holes in the Oz team too.
