It worries me as well
I don’t know the first thing about mental illness the criteria in Canada is they
“must have a serious illness, disease or disability”
“Be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed, experience unbearable physical or mental suffering from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable”

Only experts in the mental health field could possibly rule on irreversible mental decline or even know if it exists. If it’s (a cry for help) we don’t have enough mental health appointments in the UK we are failing patients with years waiting for an appointment.

The safeguards proposed in this country would mean that two separate professionals would have to approve their request and then a high court judge approve it. If they hadn't been seen by the required professionals or there were any doubts it wouldn't be sanctioned. This isn't going to lead to a mass culling of people, it's simply allowing a more humane end to people who will otherwise suffer or simply do not wish to prolong their life because of the impending pain and suffering.

I’m not hugely invested in AD as an issue but the mechanics of getting 2 professionals (doctors I presume) and a judge to sign something will be interesting to observe. That in itself will likely lead to a more streamlined application procedure which could make it less of a checks and balances and more of a tick box exercise.

I don't understand why a completely sane adult cannot be allowed to decide for themselves when, where and how they end their life?
