Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I agree .The wide roles are like a punishment in Peps formation -Torres, Jesus ,Sterling ,Mahrez now Foden and Bernie are suffering in those static roles. I get it creates space but with the wrong selection that space is used to break through our slow midfield screen and get at our back 4.

On the same point yesterday Villa were great at stopping the long diagonal pass to the wide men. This meant 3 passes to get it to them, by which time they were double marked.
On your other point, we will always look slow in the midfield as we are usually outnumbered in transition as we have 6/7 players in forward positions.
My other thought yesterday was that we had few central forward midfield runners, but again some credit yo Villa.

And I thought the stadium atmosphere was great so fair play to them for that.

He has been injured and was on the bench yesterday
Oh thank you, I hadn't spotted that he was on the bench yesterday. I shall keep him in my ff team, I have high hopes of many assists from him this season.

More eggshell.
Some of us just have a sunnier disposition on life than others, mate. We can also look at the bigger picture when it comes to City and accept that sometimes we will be poor and drop points.
Others like to wallow in their misery.
C'est la vie

It wouldn’t be a different story though because if you took Haaland away we would adapt like we’ve always done and still find ways to score like we’ve always done.

The overreaction to this game is odd.
Bear in mind this is Peps best start to a season with us so far.

Matey iv'e not overreacted at all this season and even the game yesterday I was OK with the draw

I just think maybe we are trying too hard to find Haaland and the options could be better if we have alvarez playing in a 2 upfront, other teams will find you out very quickly and villa worked hard defending with mings standing off and giving a couple of yards so he had more time to view Haaland,

the goals we scored last season was shared around and mahrez sterling jesus added close to 50 goals between them
that's a lot of goals we will miss this season,

look nobody knows what the future holds or the outcome of a game before you kick a ball
but you look to stack your odds in your favour of winning by goals in the team

They both have a tendency to dawdle on the ball. We aren't very good at stopping crosses either, particularly on Cancelo's side.
We are useless at stopping crosses coming in. Half hearted attempts regularly by Cancelo and then yesterday Rodri for the goal. Crossing is easy against us, we need to tighten up that part of our game because when we don’t click up front like yesterday, a 1-0 win will do fine!

Sometimes it looks like they want to show they can hang onto the ball, no matter who is trying to take it off them. Like, their ego kicks in. When an easy pass is on. It's frustrating.

Either at the match or watching on TV I'm screaming, "Pass the fucking ball!!!" They hang onto it and then get pressed into a bad position, hurriedly get rid of it and lose possession as a result. As the opposition keeps hacking away at them it risks injuries too. It must drive Pep mad.
