Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

If Stones wasn't injured why did he come off? We should have been bringing Ake on for Lewis. Doku for Gundogan and moving Grealish to midfield to give us some legs there.
Exactly what Nigel Gleckhorn was saying on GMR at half time.. we need more width in attack but also younger players who can track back more quickly to oppose break outs...

The only tactic that worked in the first half was getting it to Grealish. It took us 10 minutes of the second half to do it again. Ridiculous really.
To be fair, Villa readjusted. Cash was on a yellow and they dropped an extra player to cover. We should have been able to capitalise on that but our midfield is very weak at the moment…

True, but I think we caught Chelsea 'unprepared' to be fair. We weren't that good at Stamford Bridge, and haven't been all season truth be told.
Seventeen games into the season - every team is exactly where they deserve to be - no ifs, buts, maybes - half way through the season the table the table does not lie. I wouldn't make excuses for Chelsea - they're in the bracket of spend, spend, spend until the team plays as a unit. 'Unprepared' because they were overloaded with eye wateringly expensive players is not an excuse. We won that game deservedly. Megabucks sides are judged on results.

got to find 13 points from somewhere! - Its not like 2 or 3 players underperforming, Gundog, Bernie, Rico, Walker, Gvardiol, should not play again in this team - if we had a choice that is, which of course we don't. I would drop Haaland at the moment - again if we had a choice. Kev will be a bit part player from now on, as will Kova.
John Stones injured too much so will also be a bit part player.
Txiki has left us in such a poor state, Doku and Sabinho both a bit young and not ready yet.
Foden looks like a fish out of water and with Dias injured we don't have any leaders on the pitch again.
I reckon we need 5 or 6 players asap just to get us to the top half of the table. Pep has to change the system as well, based on the players he has to continue playing the high line is suicide.

This group of players has ran through walls to get the trophy haul and put our club on the map - guided by the greatest manager of our time

This squad and I'm talking about the experienced players have all hit a brick wall at the same time - for those expecting them to go at it every year and perform like they have over the last years (whilst being pushed to the brink by both the dippers and arsenal) do you not think at some point this would happen?

For those of us that lived through the "actual" shit times, this is nothing, but the final song of a team that brought success we never thought possible coming to its end.

Yes it hurts to see it, and this season is going to be tough, real tough which will only highlight those players that have come to the end of their journey and need to move on

Why when we are training don't we just get the EDS in to play a low block and try to practice playing through it and/or getting the big man on the ball. It always looks like it comes as a complete surprise to us.
