Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Erm it might be for our new fans who came along when we started winning stuff but a lot of us lived through shit like this and worse for over thirty years. Never in my worst nightmares given where we climbed too did I ever think we would drop to this level ever again.
This level ?

6th in the league, 1 point off a CL place

Just stick to the habit of talking shite instead then yeah.

Presumably It is the Monkey bit in your username that uses the collective brain cells ?
Careful, you’ll upset a few on here pointing out the facts.

People blaming a complete collapse like this solely on injuries and fatigue are living in cloud cuckoo land.

When were you appointed the spokesman for the forum ?

Too many have aged , injured too often and too easily at that and play injured due to aging in part and the whole approach to the game in one of panic and a complete lack of composure as a consequence.

We cannot keep possession and get possession back quickly enough when we lose it.

We are far too easy to set up against and have no run and physical presence due to the make up of the squad we now have.

The squad is too small to keep ticking over to cover injuries and the quick drop off while disappointing to say the least and unexpected to the degree it has demonstrates what can and does occur when you don't bring in quality to rejuvenate the squad often enough in the right numbers and positions.

Our midfield is slow and disjointed and our back four changes from game to game and isn't fit for purpose anymore and we have one up front who needs the service in and around the box with speed and fluidity otherwise he offers little.

I expect us to finish in the bottom half this season , just how low remains to be seen but those still clinging onto a top four finish I suspect it won't be too long before they realize that in a league that I don't think is as good as it has been in previous years our squad on many levels just cannot compete anywhere near the level of the past.
8 months ago we had just run rings round Real Madrid and were still seen as the best team in Europe.

I think deep down we knew on their day Arsenal were better than us but we were managing to still beat them in the table winning the last 8 games in a row.

How we have gone from that to this is shocking. First 3 games of the season we were good (albeit one was west ham away, chelsea hadnt got going and Ipswich are champo fodder) but then we struggled in September with lucky wins at home and then dropped off a cliff.

We are desperate for some new full backs and some goals up front alongside the obvious entire new midfield. wouldnt mind a new keeper either.

what the hell they do in january will be motivated by their desperation to get into the champions league - they may conclude that if we go out of this seasons champions league (which we probably will in the play off) then there is no value in new signings given that the squad fitness should improve with less games and rotation and form should return

it certainly looks like that, but who could get a good game from from Gundo in his current state, which coach could keep a team of perma-crocs fit or stop brain farts from so many of our current squad.
So why is he playing Gundogan.
Why is he playing the perma crocs?
Pep has other options.
He said that he isn't playing McAtee as he thinks the senior players are the route out of this poor period and doesn't want to put undue pressure on the younger players.

Injuries, lack of form, getting old together, confidence ,small squad, tactics. All excuses for that I've used to explain our current mess but today was inexcusable. A total lack of fight all over the pitch. Not seen as bad since the blackburn FA cup QF defeat.
Best of luck selling your season ticket on the 26th on the exchange

I don’t get this anti Rico stuff tbh , not as talented as his peers , he never stops running for this club , wipe your fannies and point the finger at other players - who to be frank are doing fuck all week in week out , I’ll not name them , but any blue with half a fucking brain should be able to work it out. Lay off the lad , at least he has energy, the bare minimum for our team - and Pep can see it.
Sometimes it's not necessarily the worst player that's the issue.

We'll be back.
It won't be 4 in a rows, trebles or centurion's, that's over now but we will be back to challenge clubs at the top.
We need to be patient, it could take a few seasons
