Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It’s so bad that it’s literally funny. Watching the young Villa player striding through our midfield like prime Yaya made me laugh out loud it was that dire. Looked like a man playing against little kids. Just one example of many and simply not good enough

So I think the disagreements I was having with some people the match thread comes down to this.

People are asking for a tactical change when they really mean they want a philosophical change. Pep constantly changes his tactics, he played a different system today to the one he played last week, but he's not going to change his philosophy.

We can call that stubborn if we want, but even if he was the sort of manager to change his philosophy we don't have a profile of player to be playing Atletico style and truth be told I don't think we'd be in a better position if we did (and certainly wouldn't have as much recent success to show for it). The thought of leaving that back four to defend for their lives for 90 minutes makes me more anxious than what we are currently seeing.

It's painful to see that what has been our biggest strengths be our weaknesses, but a change in philosophy requires an even bigger rebuild than the one we are currently facing with likely even bigger teething problems.

We need some two good players in January and we need one or two world beaters in the summer. We also need to get behind the team on Boxing Day and get a win.

I just think we need to take our medicine. It's painful, but we can't be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I trust Pep, I trust the club, the players we have run into the ground go with my absolute best wishes for everything they've given us, and we move on.

On Pep, this. He picks the same shit week in, week out. The same shit that don’t look arsed. The same shit that dangle their foot into challenges. The same shit that are petty when they’re losing.

There’s youngsters who are eager to play. And they’d show a bit of determination in their play. A bit of fight. A bit of anything that’s not the usual shit that’s been served up for the past 2 months.

Emery was arrogant enough today to play two different tactics against him (Pep) and he had no answer for either. It’s embarrassing at this point and it’s numblingly shit to watch.

If I see somebody else say ‘it’s been worse than this’ then they need to look at the difference in the players. Jamie fucking Pollock isn’t Bernardo Silva. Samaras isn’t Haaland. The list goes on. The players we have should be doing better than what they are and it stems from one man - Pep.

He takes the plaudits - rightly - when things go right and he should be able to take responsibility when it’s going wrong. Highlighting injuries in press conferences? Do me a favour.

Whatever he’s been doing over the past 2 months hasn’t worked and he hasn’t changed it at all.

Same high line. Same players. Same tactics. Same blunt attack. Same tepid defence.

All while we have players at other teams - who were in our academy - showing exactly what we’re missing. Rogers with his energy and determination. Palmer with his bravery on the ball and guile. Both players Pep and Txiki were happy to let go so they could play their favourites.

Mahrez not replaced. Walker renewed. Gundo replacing himself.

Needs sorting and fucking quick.
Shit, entitled comment

I must’ve missed all your posts last season as we strode to yet another league championship bemoaning Rogers being let go. Who the fuck is Rogers anyway. And where are Palmer’s medals.

Fannies like you are nowhere to be seen with your snidey disloyal comments when we’re winning g 4 titles on the bounce and dominating football.

Give your head a wobble

But want there wages and fans paying hard earned cash fuck blaming pep all the time these fuckers should be putting a shift in instead of feeling sorry for themselves
And I wasn’t insinuating you were blaming pep I was just pointing out some players are a disgrace
Hard to argue with that.
Players should be running through bricks walls for a manager that’s given them everything.
Especially now when he needs them most.

He was brought in to be a rotation option. Not his fault he's been tasked to start every match and play the full 90 once a week.
We're not sure what his contribution would be regardless of how much he played tbh.

Erm it might be for our new fans who came along when we started winning stuff but a lot of us lived through shit like this and worse for over thirty years. Never in my worst nightmares given where we climbed too did I ever think we would drop to this level ever again.
You never thought that the squad would need a rebuild and we might have to go without Champions League football for a season or two? Seriously?

I doubt that. We would have been totally humilated if that was the case. 8-1 springs to mind. All our key players are either injured and out of form too.
You’ve got your head in the sand if you think this isn’t an attitude issue too

I chose my words, he needs fucking off, not just replacing, been an absolute great player for us, his performances have nose dived, he's never fit and won't regain his past greatness.
You are the one who needs to do that!!!!
I wonder how you’d feel if your job ended by you getting older and people abusing you and saying you should **** off?
Give it a rest and respect a player who has worked hard for us.

Hard to argue with that.

Well if we're getting to the nitty gritty of things we need to ask why they aren't. I'm seeing things on the pitch now that aren't due to injuries or previous season feats.

Can't be worse or slower than Gundo who desperately needs to rest.
Sorry guys it’s broken record here again. We will keep on getting beat with two many small weak players in midfield ( and too many injured defenders) Gundo,Silva and Rico. Try the youngsters Wright and Nico!

Whenever a game starts and I see Rico roaming around midfield and not at full back, my heart sinks .
Combined with passenger gundogan in there too it’s like mixing water with electric… never going to end well.

Maybe a reality check for a number of individuals at the club ?

I doubt that many( apart from the many BM experts/ knowalls that is ) anticipated this episode coming as drastically and lengthy as it has been.

Hopefully in the short term, a couple of signing in January to reinforce the squad allied to fitness levels improving for those unable to play a real part atm.

I think a steady return rather than a spectacular one, and things will start to look better.

There are games coming up which need to be won for the picture to look differently.
