Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't think people should be too surprised by that performance or result. As soon as I saw the starting XI with Bobb and Savinho, I knew we would be non existent as an attacking force. Could they both become decent players in the future? Maybe - but right now they'd be barely good enough for a side with Europa Conference aspirations.

No Rodri and No Nico in the starting XI was also a major blow. It meant we struggled on the transitions and gave away too many cheap chances.

Then you've got players like O'Reilly on the bench when he's previously added in more steel and grit to the side - which was sorely missing today.

powerI can't stress how important it is that we add quality wide options next summer. There were itseveral people on this forum saying they didn't want Rodrygo because we had Bobb and Savinho. Utterly mental analysis. This is why you don't judge football on just stats.
One hundred per cent. Unless we acquire additional firepower we are unlikely to win anything. Today we started well and after fading came well back into it. I thought we were a bit unlucky not to get the draw but that was no more than an organised performance by Villa a genuine title challanger would not have lost that game.

This team isn't winning anything this season,

Tell me how it isn't then? Silva and Reijnders in midfield, Nico and Kovacic sat watching whilst we got overran in midfield. Doku sat next to them watching Savinho sleepwalk his way through the game. Half time comes and goes, no changes, brings O'Reilly on, who looked like he was still asleep. It's all on Pep
Nico who came off injured in midweek and who Pep has already said couldn't start the game? Kovacic who has made two sub appearances after being out for months with an achilles injury and isn't a defensive midfielder anyway?

I'm assuming Nico O'R wasn't injured
If not, and given we were short in the DM position, why not play him and move Stones into the Rodri/Nico G/Kova role???
Pep's still pulling really odd stuff selection wise

Barca are playing teenagers and Eric Garcia at CB and still the same process regardless. We have players who can move the ball quicker, they just choose not to.
Thats why Barca has struggled lately ,specially at the back. Still think our team lacks that quality to be one of the best in the world.Doku is a fun player to watch, but so inconsistent, lets not even talk about Savinho and actually midfield and defence is lacking quite a bit

Weak, piss poor performance, without Rodri we lack physicality and Villa were too powerful for us in midfield. Very disappointing but didn't expect much with no Rodri or Gonzalez in the starting line up. Forget about a title challenge, Arsenal's too lose.

I thought we started brightly but then lost our way after 15 mins. Dominated the 2nd half but just one of those days. A very close offside goal (correctly) ruled out and some excellent blocks from Villa defenders stopped us getting something from the game.

I thought we played some decent stuff at times but we really need a bit more from our wide players, none of whom really created anything of note. Would have liked Cherki to get more minutes as he is the type of player that can make a difference in these kind of games.
Wow, that's how i saw it, there are some entitled fans on this forum, glad to see someone with a sense of reality

Unfortunately still too soon for this current squad to finish champions this season.
This squad of players will be champions, how to put it.... never! Not in the PL, or any of the big five leagues. We managed to assemble a team of the players who are past it or who will never have it in both quality and mentality to be champions.

Couldn’t score in a brothel. Awful decisions from Guardiola to accommodate players that have been useless since Wolves away. At least Savio played well vs Villarreal to get the start but what have Bobb and reijnders done? Absolutely nothing players
John stones bang average these days and there must be a better rb than nunes .
The whole team are too soft and couldn’t tackle a rice pudding. How many times did we pin them in their own box and they still got out - pathetic!

How predictable!
Yet another bogey team.We must have about 10 now.
Sick to death of seeing them 2 weak wingers.
What has Marmoush done wrong? He is the only other player after from Haaland in the squad who knows were the goal is.
Mid table for this lot. Too many other teams who have more heart, strength and energy than us.
Our corners (and kit) can fuck off too
Marmoush not long back from a bad injury but don't be surprised to see him in the team sooner rather than later

And yes that kit is fucking abysmal
