Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

You couldn't resist mentioning it though.
In any case Seems you can't close you account on here yourself even if you wanted too, which in itself is strange.
"To". As for your second point; no we don't have the power to close accounts, only to ban posters. If a poster wants to close his account, he needs to contact the admin. Same if you want to point out the "strangeness" of said lack of facility that the mods have.

Mediocre? That’s a bit harsh mate.

We can’t win every single game. There are a small number of injuries to key players that affected today’s performance.

Pep is still learning about the players and squad. He’ll probably learn more from today’s performance.

If (and it’s a massive if) - Marmoush learns to stay onside we dig out a hard earned point and the majority would be content.

I’ll not be judging any new players this early in the season. Too many players before have improved after 6-18 months. Nico G being a good recent example.

We need to dust ourselves off and make sure we beat Bournemouth next week.

We are mediocre.

We’re level on points with the Salford scumbags.

Doku played his best football on a City shirt for 3/4 weeks when let roam into central areas causing havoc....

He hasn't been seen in that position since.

It was only a few weeks ago Ljinders was getting praised for the form of Doku and having some similarities to Saido Mane at Liverpool. Now Doku looks back to playing like Aaron Lennon.

John Lennon….

Last 3 starts with Stones in the league: 3 City losses (Spurs, Brighton, Villa). Our record with him in the starting XI since the start of last season is appalling: under 1,5 ppg. But it's Pep's fault to play him mostly in midfield today. Think that was a mistake. We were a mess in midfield in the first half.

Imo, Pep should have played the same defence (Dias and Gvardiol at CB, Nunes and O'Reilly at FB) and go for other decisions at DM (say, Bernie and Kova). Reijnders lacks defensive qualities. Playing him deep creates rather than solves problems.

Foden is a bit lightweight for a midfield role away from home when we lack a proper DM in the team. He's more of a second striker than a pure midfielder.

Our campaign depends on Rodri. He's irreplaceable right now, although Gonzalez is very good.

If Rodri stays fit, we can compete. Without him we'll be inconsistent.
Agree.
But I’ll be amazed if Rodri signs an extension, which is a worry.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports on what he learnt from the game: "That we are a really good team who played a really good game. We started a really good game. In general we were much better in the second half but in the end we could not score.

"They link really well inside, they play four up front, they track you in high positions and after they link behind, they have the ability to keep that ball, it is not easy and when you cannot win those duels it's more difficult.

"In the first half the pressing wasn't good, in the second half it was better. We were not aggressive enough.

"It was a corner. A good corner and a goal. Listen, it doesn't matter. We can talk about this reaction. Listen, in 10 years already here I respect the referees too much. It was a corner and we should've defended that. You cannot complain about actions from five minutes before.

"We had the chances to score, we couldn't do it. We will improve.

"I am satisfied. We played really good in the Premier League mainly and we're getting better. We will learn from that. It's a long journey, we will try to be close at the end."
Genuinely haven’t listened to a pep after game interview in a long time. Shite or brilliant he repeats the same things.
Can only hope behind closed doors it’s a bit different.

Dog shit, we are are a lightweight team in a heavyweight league, most players these days are physical athletes we have a bunch of short arses in the middle of the park. Savinho should’ve fucked off to Spurs, unfortunately Bobb isn’t a starter for me, every time I see a City behind the scenes video everyone is shooting, yet we get on the pitch and think we must give it to Haaland, have some fucking self belief and twat the bastard. Apparently we have a new set piece coach, well that twat need sacking are corners are devoid of ideas.
Really pissed off at this performance, ye I know we’ve won so many in a row etc etc and I don’t mind losing but it’s the manner of it, far too many changes in the team and it shows. We ain’t winning the league this year and you know it’s there for the taking unfortunately the Tarquins will win it but I suppose it’s better than the dippers.

The games we have won, we only played well in patches. I don’t think we have played consistently well in a game all season yet. 3 losses already is not great so we have to improve very quickly.

Sadio Mane could score more goals in a season than Doku has in his entire career, but I agree about the central movements that we just stopped seeing.

All our midfield was missing today was Ken Dodd, maybe the Viking was Snow White? As someone once said, you’ll win nothing with a team full of underfed circus dwarfs.

Not good enough but Villa weren't much better but they did defend well enough to shut us down. Still too early to call where the title is going. Could have done with a bit of luck with our midfielders fitness.

Lol, just got an email from City with the players ratings.....the worst performers with only 4/10 were Bobb and Gvardiol .... most of our players were on an average 5/10 ( and the word ' average' was being kind to them) ..... and only three players got the top mark of 6/10, Foden, Haaland and Donnarumma ...... says it all really!

We needed almost everyone to be at least an 8/10 to get a result today .. and we, on this forum, might have had a more interesting city 'player of the match' vote/competition!

Defence is good.We rely too much on Foden and Haaland.
The wide men were poor today.
I wonder what Oscar contributes to when he starts.

Manchester City's Bernardo Silva to Sky Sports: "I would say we played quite well with the ball. Our offensive concepts were quite good. Even if we didn't score we had chances. We made them defend deep and they struggled in some moments. On the other side of the game we were really bad defensively. Our pressing was really bad, we arrived two seconds late to every duel. That was the feeling even though our offensive concepts were quite good, but if the pressing is not good you allow the game to be a transitional game. When our pressing is not good we do not play well.

"Obviously they are a very good team, this is a Champions League team, a team with a lot of quality players. I do believe our defensive concepts were really bad today.

"It's a minor decision, it's not like a penalty or a red card that changed the game. The reality is it should've been a foul. It wasn't and they scored from the corner. That was a bit frustrating for us, but it's football. These small things is not that important. The referee said he thought it was a corner. People make mistakes, just say sorry and go on to the next one. Don't be arrogant. Like I say, it was not because of that that we lost the game. It was not about the referee today.

"It's still a long way to go. I don't want to draw too many conclusions. We would love to be at the top but we're not. It's way too early to draw conclusions."

So according to this forum today we are on the verge of losing Haaland and Rodri.
Does every poor performance mean we are likely to lose one of our best players?
We are truly fucked.

Maybe it’s just Villa, but unlike other teams, their players continually seem to get goal side of our players across the pitch. Deeply frustrating watching players get turned and outmanoeuvred so easily.

Go and have a look at the last 3 midfield selections we’ve picked away to them. The choices are worlds away from what was required - they run hard, our lot jogged and/or get brushed off the ball and ran past easily
