Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

He had it 13 seconds why make shit up.

That ruling hasn't been used anywhere near as often as it should.
I agree, I thought the villa keeper was taking a long time with ball in hand & goal kicks, so started timing him on my phone like a proper sad bastard. He’s was regularly over 8 seconds with ball in hands & some of his goal kicks were 35/36/37 seconds. They took there time with throw ins too, all while the ref did nowt.
I thought City were poor today anyway & didn’t do enough to win the game, but it was a classic Oliver reffing performance where he influences the game by not giving decisions. The two handed push on Gvardiol in the box by Morgan Roger’s as an example. Some might argue that it would be a soft pen, but I have seen pens given for a lot less than that.

No bother bud, I hate when we get beat especially when you have a feeling it could have been better.

Better days ahead hopefully - fingers crossed for starting game time for Ait-Nouri, Cherki, Marmoush and Khusanov against Swansea and get some momentum going again.
The last time I saw Alt Nouri play was one of the worst displays from a city player Ive seen in a long time....he had that air of sloppiness and lacking fight about him straight off
Khunsonov is a big miss defensively.

We have to settle down a little bit on here because it's only 9 games into the season, Pep has had injury problems again with both Nico on the bench and Rodri out so what more could he have done today

Yes, it's not good to lose and play poorly but we are still short in terms of a settled squad, Ait-Nouri, Khusanov, Rodri, Cherki, Marmoush, are a base of a good line-up and offer so much to the team,

Maybe after 20 games, City will be flying and have them back, So we have to try and pick up points and keep in touch of the leaders and push on, I will say this season teams are beating each other and the top 6 is crazy right now and 2 wins can change a team's place by 8 or 9 places,

Arsenal are flying right now, but i question how they are winning games by set pieces or corners, yes, it's still winning and picking up 3 points but we know come the part of the season other clubs need points it can let you down

It's a painful display today, but we have to look at what Pep had to play against and a good Villa team on their patch
But we move on and go again in midweek and a good win in the cup can just be what we need to forget about today

We also have to consider the very real possibility that Rodri might never full recover his full self. After such an injury and at 29 years old he might not recover his full power....There are so many players that have suffered similar injuries and never full recovered from it. ..

This needs to be considered now as we have no one in the squad baring Nico G that can play that 6 role
We still have Kalvin ;-)

our starting wide players were both very poor and only Foden tried to find Haaland - might have been a different story had Haaland scored when he was put through?

this is such bullshit I don't know why people accuse me of this, go back to my comments and you'll see that couldn't be far from the truth.. I am sick of the harrassment i get from you people don't you have anything better to do?
Maybe a forum where folk are free to add opinions is not for you. Have you tried the library?

Here we fucking go, another 150 page post match thread after a narrow defeat to a very good team

There should be a kind of entry policy applied to post match threads whereby if you don’t comment in one after a victory then you’re not allowed to comment after a defeat.

It would keep out all the rags / dippers / various player fanboys / tourist / JCLs etc who just flood it with tantrum inspired nonsense, the vast majority of whom are nowhere to be seen when we win
Problem is there’s not much to say after a win bar great win, team played great and so on. After a defeat there’s a multitude of postmortems. Just human nature chum. I’ll also add I don’t think there’s quite as many dippers, rags and so on as people think.

As great as our old players were, none of them had to come up against packed defences every week. It's become more normal and teams defend deeper and just protect the space.

It was brilliant back then, but I don't think we can get that back, and I don't think even those players would find it easy to create against teams the way they set up against us now.
Things have changed and it would be more difficult for those players now. I would love to see Yaya and David Silva at their best in the current squad, of course.

We are not going to see the kind of bravura football with the regularity we once did because of changes our opponents have made and how teams approach playing us.

I think Pep & Pep are trying to tweak things but a wholesale change in our way of playing under won’t happen, and I don’t think it needs to. Some evolution is needed but more than anything we need to make more changes to personnel. We need two absolutely outstanding rapid wingers adding and we need to have more midfielders who have pace, strength and aggression in addition to excellent technical ability. We have to be able to win the physical battle at times so that we can use our technical ability to outplay the opposition.

Foden is the only one with the bollocks to continually try to find the pass...Doku does sometimes tbf

Bobb and Sav often take the very easy safe options.....

Name them?

First of all, I’m not a scout and don’t watch much outside of City(maybe Ipswich but I don’t think we should be looking at them)

No one is telling me there isn’t a functional right back and at least one(one!) winger that is either available or we can make available - I simply don’t accept it

Are Nunes, Savio and Doku seriously the best we can expect in those positions?

His performance against Al-Hilai I would describe as worrying

Hate criticising our team or pep.
But we are currently a one man team, and have been for some time. And if he doesn't score, we look like mid table mediocrity.
A bad day at the office.
I'm confident we can turn this around, a one nil away at villa isn't the worst result in the world, its not disastrous. But we need a kick up the arse, otherwise we're finishing outside the top six.
Workrate looks poor, the rotation isn't producing team spirit. We look lethargic at times.
I know we are in transition to an extent, but are all the players giving 100 percent, 100 percent of the time?
Im not sure.
Love my club but this feels a bit off.

No mate, they aren’t I agree.

The problem is identifying better players that are obtainable.
