Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

This is what we are looking at with the quality of the wingers now.

Sterling 225 games in Prem for us including as a sub- 91 goals

Mahrez - 145 games - 43 goals

Sane 90 games - 25 goals

Doku/savinho/bobb combined

127 games - 8 goals

Unless that changes then we will have more of these games!

Haaland has one off day and we don’t score!
Pretty sobering that!

We’ve bought too many lightweights recently, just as power and pace are now becoming more important in this league.

We could do with a couple of proper units in midfield (Rodri coming back will help).

We also need some real full backs that can actually tackle or block crosses. Gvardiol is a centre back, that’s his only position and one he’s great at, but he’s shite at left back.
Tuchel has recognised it for England and it has transformed the national team. In his physical, powerful version of England only Bellingham will get back into the current starting XI and Foden won't even be on the plane to the US. Maybe this is the newest era of player and the City blueprint needs to be rethought?

Sterling, Sane and Mahrez also had balls, they would happily trade it with anyone who fancied it.

who wanna bet he is gonna start cherki against swansea so he could bench him next week against bournmouth
Then goes post match saying he isnt ready physicaly
Always making excuses when he picks the wrong team
He never admits his mistakes why would he when he is always protected

I respect your opinion but we have historically forged players into winners. Kompany, Zabba, Silva, Aguero to name a few came to City without having honours previously .
We're going to get the odd defeat at the moment we are nowhere near the finished article but we're on the upward trajectory again and just need to be patient. the league is as strong as its been in my opinion. Players need to step up to the mark though in terms of goals, it's a huge concern the lack of goals spread throughout the team

Of course you are correct winners are forged here however players have come here not necessarily as winners but with a winners mentality. Kompany and Zabba were warriors from day one and silva and Aguero led by example in a different way but still had the innate competitiveness of winners.

The players were signing now don’t seem to possess that. Reijnders looks a tidy footballer but won’t do the dirty side of the midfield role, Savinho won’t press or put his foot in and Cherki, who looks incredibly talented, but has had to lose 2 stone in weight and Marmoush has not scored away from home in 10 months.

Talent alone won’t win the league you also need to show commitment and desire and the jury is out on a lot of these players.

There are those in the media both traditional and social that would love to see cracks so they could pile on.

We all know we didnt play well but he won't give people ammunition to have a go at the team.
Maybe that's what they need after 2 years of abject performances.
He's lost his mojo.

And just to add fuel to the fire, 5 of those goals were scored by Doku, who is now in his 3rd season

Only Savinho ever looks like getting in a goalscorer position, but to have 2 goals out of him since he joined is absolutely pathetic given the number of goals we score and opportunities we create

All those people clamouring for Bobb.

If Bobb was the answer then I've absolutely no idea what the question was!

On top of that the chances and assists they provided for other players.

Wingers output is so bad it’s become a chronic issue in the team.

Those stats are damming, completely unacceptable and not the clubs level.

City have 18 shots to Villa's 9, and we have more possession too, according to Opta Stats ..... yet we cannot score a goal that counts.

Pitiful ..... couldn't win any 2nd balls, couldn't even get a point from the game.

Not so much the players, as the change in system and readjusting (which we've not managed), to accommodate them.
This was always going to be a problem. Football constantly evolves and we need to change to stay in touch. There seems to be a much greater emphasis on individual talent at city now (look how he described Cherki this week) and we have some massively talented players that in our new system have to produce more tHan, perhaps, someone like Sane did in the system we played then

I wouldn’t like us to use any international team as a blueprint. England !! Would they even finish in the top half of the PL ?

International football is very much the poor relation these days. Most teams England face wouldn’t survive in the championship let alone the PL
