Aston Villa (A) - Post-Match Thread

Aside from the obvious plaudits for the brilliant first half and the sublime goal by Bernado, what also struck me was the fact that several times Bernado and to a lesser extent Sterling and Mahrez got into villas box ready for the killer pass only to look up and see no City available. Sergio would have been there waiting or busting a gut to get in and score. We still really miss that instinctive type striker. Its happened in nearly every game we have played this season.

Welcome to the harsh realities of life as an also ran. This happened to us first when Portsmouth took James, Distin and Cole from us, effectively the spine of our team at the time. Then we sold Barton to Newcastle and SWP to Chelsea. No team outside the elite can build a strong side anymore because as you rightly say as soon as they unearth a gem the top teams cherry pick them. Do I like it or think it's right? No I don't but it's been like this for at least twenty years or more. The foolish clubs voting for ffp to try and stop the elite getting stronger just shot themselves in the foot and condemned themselves to the wilderness forever. Idiotic.

As for Grealish you should be cheering him not booing him. The lad is Villa through and through. He not only stayed with you at least two years longer than he should, to get you back in the premier league and ensure you stayed there, he then signed a new contract with a ridiculously high release clause. He and Villa knew he would move on and he could have run down his contract like Millner did to us and fuck off for free. Instead he got you 100 million to rebuild your team. Time will tell if he was a big fish in a small pond but he contributed far more to Villa than I fear he ever will for us. Personally I'd take 80 million and Watkins from you and you could have him back in January.
20 years???
Try since football began…. It’s just the way it is. Good players want to go on and win things, earn more and rightly so.
Bet Le Tissier and Shearer for example with they’d moved elsewhere

It's always been like this, think Liverpool in the 70s, or Arsenal taking the Huddersfield players, way back when.
...or united to us way back even further when they took Billy Meredith, the manager Ernest Mangall, etc. etc. due to City's 'irregularities'.

its always happened and always will.

city fans booing Paul Dichov, no different to villa fans, glass houses an' all that

That's a bit of a myth that's grown legs over the years. I was at that game against Leicester I think, a bit of a relegation battle if my fading memory serves me well. During the game we were booing Dickov in a joking way with lots of laughter due to his usual get stuck in style. It was pure pantomime. He knew it and we knew it. We were losing 1-0 but well in the game when they got a soft penalty. Dickov scored it and his over the top celebrations to the City fans rightly got him real stick, he was bang out of order. Here is a picture of him laughing and blowing kisses to our fans just after he scored.

There isn’t another sport in the world where one team could be so dominant for so long and the result still in doubt until the very last second, which is very true , although the result was in doubt, our game management was superb and we deserved the win.

Bernardo, the talent, the technique, unreal. That is so difficult to do at pace and he made it look easy. If it wasn't for Salah he would be walking player of the season atm.

Thought Sterling had a decent game, he is returning to form, Cancelo is strangely a better left back than right back, Zincho did well though and Rodri was once again superb.

There is no other team in England who would have scored that first goal from Ruben because CBs do not have the freedom to roam that ours have and it was a tidy finish too.

Considering who we had missing, it was a good performance, if we can keep this run going we will be in a very good position in the new year and we will have players returning.

We score enough to win games, just, but we create a lot of chances that go begging, and someone like Sergio would be filling his boots with the chances that appear in the oppo penalty and goal areas.
