Aston Villa (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

IDK if Doku could make that cross with another 99 chances but he delivered his best one as City player and can't say enough about Nunes for arriving and finishing. Proper first goal for City.
Doku is usually forced to play the final ball with his weaker foot. This time he created enough space to use his right foot. Therefore more accurasy. It was a brilliant ball.

Just like the Everton game I feared the worst when I got in and saw the line up but after the near disastrous start I could sort of see the method in Pep’s madness.

Watching the two teams warm up there is a huge gulf in physicality and size between City and Villa and it would have been suicide to go toe to toe with them.

We played to contain and control them and you could say that the plan worked….we passed the ball so much better than we were doing a couple of months ago and packed the midfield….but just goes to show how vulnerable we can be after Nunes gave the ball away after a sustained period of possession and it lead to the attack for the penalty.

Still don’t get all of Pep’s decisions…Gundogan was running in treacle for most of the second half but was left on for the 95 minutes….why couldn’t he have moved McAtee into his more natural position instead of Gundogan at the end when Doku came on…still it all worked out.

On Sunday we should have a rested Foden , Nico, Doku, maybe even Grealish to go at Forest.

Let’s hope that win inspires some of the ‘stay at homes’ to change their mind for Sunday.

Top win that!

Another game where everybody played well. Especially everyone worked their bollocks off. The elder statesmen in midfield Silva, De Bruyne, Kovačić and Gündoğan were everywhere.

A good lesson seemingly learnt from the away game where they out worked us and ran through us at ease. We blocked their running lanes off by creating traffic and overrunning them with numbers with that^ midfield 4 plus Nunes and O’Reilly pushing forward and Marmoush dropping in making our formation 2-7 or 2-6-1.

Nunes made a mistake for their penalty/goal, but more than made up for it with the winner. Sick of all the moaning directed at him during the game - alright he’s not Cafu, but his positional sense since that second half in Paris in January has improved ten fold, he’s a better left back than Lewis and I bet he’s barely played a dozen games there - get behind the lads when you’re there live, have your moans in the pub and on here afterwards!

Love an injury time winner, that’s why you never leave early, it’s what football is all about!

What a finish, shades of 93:20. Weird at the game and on the big telly afterwards it didn’t do justice to Doku’s ball, what a beauty and Nunes of all people with the finish. Relief and pure joy.

Not sure if the right thread but there was a blue receiving CPR on Joe mercer way after the game. Not what you want to see after the game! Got everything crossed he was OK
I was walking past the doors to the coop arena when there seemed a lot of activity, pray whoever it is comes through.

Was delighted that Nunes scored the winner after the negative twat who sits behind me slagged him off all game. He thinks it's hilarious when he shouts "get him off" every time he touches the ball, but noone else around him finds it funny.
Oh, and to the half of the stadium who bothered staying until the end of the match, that goal was for you!
You in 326?

It was a fabulous ball across the face of goal, Good point you've made regarding his weaker foot...

Once he went past Disasi I was really surprised Konsa held his position and didn't come out to close down Doku, That gave Doku time and space to bend it with the outside of his foot.

Fabulous wing play, Really poor from Konsa defensively.

It was indeed a brilliant ball ...... as he skipped past Disasi, and left him for dead, i was praying that Doku would actually look up for once and measure his ball to find someone in a sky blue shirt .... it was the perfect match winning ball in, at a time when the game looked to be all over a draw.

Deserved win. I liked seeing our desire back a bit tonight. Stood up physically as well. Depleted crowd but a better atmosphere
