Aston Villa (H) Post-Match Thread

We can all find one instance of a player being "walked past" in 95 minutes , did you see Merlin lose the ball in the centre circle in the 2nd half and make no effort to retrieve it ? The one incident doesnt make Merlin weak , Gundogan had a superb game again , i can understand posters having their favourites and the players they choose to dislike before they have even kicked a ball , but highlighting ONE incident in ninety-odd minutes to judge a players performance is harsh to say the least.

He’s slow, not very strong and can’t run back. That is a concern, in my opinion, particularly coming up against Liverpool. That’s not to say he doesn’t have other strengths

He's clever , makes himself available and hardly ever gives the ball away , he made some great interceptions today because he reads the game so well , Gareth Barry wasnt the quickest , but he was brilliant for us , Gundogan is a similar player but admittedly not as good as Barry in his pomp , so will have to agree to disagree

Villa fans are the rags of the Midlands, B'ham have long had a nasty crowd and the ground is a dump, best club round there is West Brom.
Agreed. I lived there for a while. Villa are queens who the Birmingham fascists chased around town. Wolves are gobshites overall. West Brom are sound as a pound.

Relatively decent performance I thought today. Really wasteful in the first half, but even that was an improvement on the wolves game as at least we were creating chances. Early second half goal helped ease the nerves and from then on it were all city. How good was Phil when he came on? Fit right in, looked comfortable on the ball, confident in his decision making and overall looked superb in the 15 minutes he got. Can't be long surely till he starts a PL game this season?
Wasn't at the game today but from what I saw on TV and have heard from others, the atmosphere was shite once again. The team could really do with that extra boost when we're struggling to find a goal, can't only be when we face a top 6 opposition. Something really needs to be done about that imo.
Overall a decent bit of football. The countdown to Anfield begins...

Not the best atmosphere but got better afer the goal and when the whole end sand fuck var but then quitned down a bit. I put it down to this....a few fans too hard to sing, not their thing. A few waiting for everyone else then they'll join in in everyine around them's singing. Fans are spoilt so they get impatient if we haven't scored so less up for singing at that frustrated point. And when we do go a few goals up not as excited and a ffew leave early.

We're spoilt with this team but it's not something that helps create an atmosphere as much as say, a mid table team, whove just scored against a top 4 side.
