At the time they got very little credit for it. The five winners before them were Liverpool x3 and Nottingham Forest x2. It wasn't seen as that big a deal as English football was dominant. Winning the league was much more prestigious at that time. Defending champions Villa finished, err, 11th. City finished 10th.
