Aston Villa vs. City Pre-Match Discussion Thread

Given that their biggest asset (other than injured Benteke) is speedy forward play, I would have thought Clichy over Kolarov and Richards over Zaba.

If Pelle has one eye on Bayern then probably still Richards for Villa as he's only just back from injury, but possibly Kolarov for Villa and Clichy for Bayern.

Other than that I am in the completely new position of not really caring who he selects as I think whatever combo he comes up with (and there are soooo many..........!) should be as good as any other combo. Never thought I'd find myself thinking that!

Gabby Agbonlahor also carrying a knock and may not make the weekend, Weimann was rested last night as he's the only experienced forward they have fit, the other two Lozak and Helenius are well off the pace.

From an ESPNFC story today:

"Lambert expects several of the players left out against Spurs, including Gabby Agbonlahor, to have recovered in time for the weekend, although he insisted they all had genuine injuries."

I think he'll play.

Agbonlahor may have too, but he won't be 100%

With the form that Agbonlahor is in right now, Kozak (who is a good player) will thrive of him, so if anything we have to keep both him and Weimann quiet.

Benteke is out for 6-8 weeks so a bit of good new there.

Didn't Lozak score at the weekend?

Christian Benteke will miss this weekend's game against City after being ruled out for 4-6 weeks with an injury.

Being dismantled 4-0 at home to Spurs should probably further hurt their morale in addition to losing their main goal getter.

That said, it won't be easy and these away games will be the litmus test for how our season will pan; 3 points is a must.

I'd like to see Jovetic and Dzeko play again, resting Negredo for the Bayern game. I hope Nasri will continue his good form.

My team (one eye on the Bayern game):

Richards---Kompany---Nastasić---Kolarov
----------------Touré-----Fernandinho------------
----------Milner--------Nasri-------Jovetić---------
---------------------------Džeko-------------------------

Need to win this one. I'm sure MP will work his magic.

Didn't Lozak score at the weekend?

He scored on first touch, then took about 200 wild shots that had no chance

I hope that we keep up the momentum and score a few. Important as teams will again start fearing a mauling every time they face us and automatically concede possession from the start, which only spurs us on.

0-3 with an early goal is my prediction.

Just looking for a good away performance, shall watch it in the pub.

Yes, we are surely 'owed' a decent away performance after being less than inspiring on our outings so far this season , and Villa Park wouldn't be a bad place to come up with one ......

they looked dreadful against Spurs , they can't be that bad again .. surely!
