This post is assuming silva is fit for bayern (plus richards and clichy being now fully fit)!

I think the villa side has to take into account the bayern side we want to play. For me, we should play our best squad against bayern, which i reckon is:

TO FACE BAYERN:
...........................Hart...........................
Zaba....Kompany....Nastasic....Clichy
...............Ferna............Toure...............
Navas..............Aguero..................Silva
.......................Negredo........................

Toure and fernandinho have played a lot of football recently, and as i think we need them at their best for bayern (particularly yaya) i think we should be careful about playing them both against villa. Maybe a 45 min each like against wigan?

TO FACE VILLA:
.................................Hart.............................
Richards....Kompany....Lescott....Kolarov
.....................Ferna.........Rodwell................
Milner...................Jovetic.................Nasri..
..............................Dzeko............................

I think we have minor problems in the CDM spot. Now that we have lost barry, anyone apart from toure and fernandinho is a real step-down in quality. I dont even know if rodwell is fit (he wasnt in wigan squad...), if he isnt we would have to play garcia instead.

With options like Aguero, Navas, Negredo, Toure coming off the bench, i reckon (i hope!) the above squad could do the damage enough to let us play a team that will make a real statement in europe against bayern (i hope again!)
do you want us to win the league?

If it was Villa at home I could understand why people would say rest Yaya and Aguero but I just don't get it when we need to get our first away league win on the board.

For Villa:

Hart
Richards Kompany Nastasic Kolarov
Fernandinho Yaya
Milner Aguero Nasri
Negredo

For Bayern:

Hart
Zabaleta Kompany Nastasic Clichy
Fernandinho Yaya
Navas Silva Jovetic
Aguero

How can you leave Dzeko out for two matches?

Zabaleta is one of the best players in this team. So he can play against anybody if you ask me.
.
Zabaleta? - Watch who cost 2 goals in the Audi Cup (more mistakes in the past CL games vs Ribery as well.). Zab is a good player but he just couldn't cope with the pace of Bayern's attackers at all.

Dzeko always played great against Bayern in the Bundesliga derbises. ( Use Youtube, ... .. )
.
Dzeko? - His Wolfsburg's form vs his City's form is totally different (Actually his Wolfsburg form was just like .... million years ago as well;) ). I like Dzeko but think you've already forgot who was really off form against Bayern and caused the Tevez/Mancini's incident at Munich.

Imo, put these two vs Villa and keep Negredo (strength vs Bayern's defence) and Richards (pace vs Ribery) for the CL game is just making much more sense.

Will Richards pace help to prevent Riberys attacks. Wow :). Believe me it is much more important defense on Ribery that to out run him.
( And when you outrun, outpace Ribery IF you manage to, you leave a big open place for them to counter attack you )
I stand by my opinion that Dzeko is more suited for the Bayern game, i can explain it to you if you want. But your points are also valid. Thanks for the videos.

So you think Richards still got only pace and has not learnt and improved since Sven's days then?

They are both very good players (Zabaleta, Richards ). I dont know if Richards is 100 % ready for Bayern, because he didn play a lot this year. And for Bayern you have to be 100 % FIT. Also I think that who ever will play this position shouldnt go to far in bayern half, which will make the team vulnerable to counterattacks and Bayern in strongest on their wings.

Re: Villa Away

How about trying to get a new song going at the Villa game......To the tune of Viva John Terry

I think the best way for us to win the league is to make sure that we're still in the CL after the group stages.

Our league form dipped alarmingly after being knocked out of the CL early in each of the last two years. If we qualify this season it will give us a huge boost in self belief. And if we beat Bayern, shortly after stuffing United, it will scare the living daylights out of the other title contenders.

We do need to win away from home. But we also need to be able to do it without playing our strongest team.

Call me a miserable pessimistic bugger, but that 0-4 Villa v Spurs was the worst possible result for us. Whatever side Villa put out, no team gets whacked at home and then loses the next home game a few days later. And City's goal feast is going to run dry sooner or later.
It's nothing to do with skill, confidence, the quality of the players or anything.
It's the laws of probability plus the fact that their coaches will have insisted on a dramatic tightening of their back four.
I know these things. I've been following football for longer than most of you.
You watch.
We will. We are rubbish with Benteke, we are relegation fodder without him.

You will beat us by at least three, and you'll find most Villa fans are saying the same. Read our forums and you'll see 90% are predicting an absolute mauling.

We're decent away but we have no idea how to play at home, we can't keep the ball and we have no creativity or quality in midfield. El Ahmadi is absolute dirt and Toure will have a field day.

For what its worth, IMO Pellegrini won't rotate that much for either game. We are at beginning of season not the end and there is a full 4 days for recovery between games it isn't as though players are tired after a long season. For me it is play the best side available for each game taking into account any tactical changes.

Villa

Hart
Zab
Kompany
Nasty
Kolorov

Yaya
Fernandhino
Milner (IMO MOTM against Wigwam deserves a start)

Nasri
Aguero
Negredo

Bayern

Hart
Richards (I think he would be better than Zab up against Ribbery)
Kompany
Nasty
Clichy (Combat pace of Robben)

Yaya
Fernandhino
Navas (Make sure their full back doesn't come forward)

Silva
Dzeko
Aguero

Leaving Jovetic to come on after say 60 mins or so to replace Aguero if he is getting tired.
Nasri may start against Bayern if Silva ain't fit but Silva replacing him after 60 mins or so

Very reasonable. May be good to use Lescott in the first game. And sub Fernandinho after 60 min with Garcia. ( in the VIlla game )
