That's efficiency where machines are already being used, not replacing workers with machines that have heavy power usage and also leaving those workers at home where they'll use more electricity.It's about being more efficient surely. If the AI does it in less time and less consumption it will be a good thing. Or even if AI schedules some power consumption at times when the national grid isn't heaving under pressure that's also good and probably more cost-effective.
The second part - most grids have the same efficiency either way. In countries with proper hydro systems, peak time is the most fuel efficient as the release of hydro systems sends a huge surge into the grid from a renewable energy source. There's a limited amount of times you can do that per day.
