Atmosphere 2024/25

Most of the time, it’s just arms outstretched giving it ‘come on then’ and they grass you up to a steward for doing a plane gesture.

Some wronguns still do the plane gesture, don’t get me wrong, but imagine grassing them up for it anyway!
So, my mate, the Wythenshawe ONE as we now call him, has today been acquitted and charges dropped by GMP. After waiting for 4 days for City to send the CCTV, the video clearly shows it as mistaken identity, the guy behind the Wythenshawe ONE, was the culprit.

So, the stewards pointed out the wrong supporter, in the wrong seat, on the wrong row. Now, after being arrested, frogmarched out of the ground in cuffs, only seeing half the game (lucky bastard), spending the night in Newton Heath nick, an immediate 3 year ban notice issued by GMP to City who subsequently suspended his SC and cancelled his ticket for Villa.

He is rightly pissed off and doesn't want to let this go. Some faceless steward has fucked up, a CCTV operator has fucked up. Someone has to be held accountable for the shitshow he endured. The presumption of guilt is astounding. You're banned, no questions. No process, just an email telling a 15 year SC holder he's not welcome. With the stark message from the Club stating if the Police ban is longer than a season, you're SC is rescinded and gone forever.

Simple question:

Does anyone on here know the protocol for taking this further?

Ta.

Maybe someone else can clarify but he should get in touch with the club I think.

A letter or e-mail along the lines of “Now that all charges have been dropped by GMP who accept that it was a case of mistaken identity - you can clarify this with them - I look forward to my ban being rescinded with immediate effect and my season ticket being re-activated in time for the game against Everton on Boxing Day.”

Keep it nice and cordial at first and if no joy then he should tell them he’ll be taking legal action.

I wouldn't be speaking to the club before speaking to a lawyer. Here's why:
  • Negligence: The stewards and CCTV operator may have negligently identified your friend as the culprit.
  • Defamation: Being publicly arrested and escorted out of the stadium could harm his reputation.
  • Breach of Contract: The club may have breached its terms and conditions for season ticket holders by prematurely revoking his privileges.
  • False Imprisonment: He was wrongly arrested and detained.
There's bound to be a claim in there somewhere.

Fair enough all of that, hence why I asked if someone could clarify whether it was the right thing to do.

Spoken like a true Scouser ; )

After following your advice I personally would front up at the club - emails / letters just go into a queue that would take some time to reach the top.

We should be celebrating it and singing about it every game. It’s one of the greatest achievements ever
I get what he’s saying.

We should be celebrating our four-in-a-row achievement (and the Centurions one which we have no songs for and only one seldom seen banner about). However, that ‘YOU’LL NEVER WIN FOUR IN A ROW’ banner isn’t celebrating that City have achieved it, it’s pointing out that the Rags haven’t and won’t.

But maybe they will. The Scousers put this banner up in a game against the Rags in 1994:

15 years later they had won 18.

I hope he gets sorted mate, the club shouldn’t be treating their own fans like that. As someone else said above, I reckon Liverpool would treat their own supporters better.
