Atmosphere 2024/25

I’m on about chanting and songs. Any crowd can make noises of frustration. That isn’t creating an atmosphere.

At least City fans sing songs and chant throughout the match.

Yet, we’re constantly told there isn’t any support and atmosphere at the Etihad.

I must be watching a different match but every time an Everton player makes a tackle they are getting applause, cheering closing down, putting pressure on the ref.

To be honest I’m not going to get bothered about comments about our atmosphere but then do the exact same thing to another fanbase.

You have posted, very eloquently, over the years about the wider issues of atmospheres in UK stadiums. It’s an issue affecting all grounds. Everton have a cracking fanbase for me.

I posted about the atmosphere at St James Park last week being quiet but I think the wider issues are the price of tickets, kick off times and changing fanbases.

Yes there are, but they aren’t singing.

It’s 0-0 with 3 minutes to go until full-time. I can hear individual people shouting in the crowd.(I have got Sonos, Dolby Atmos)

PS. “Everton, Everton, Everton” has just been chanted again for 10 seconds.

To be honest after seeing how Everton have played over the past couple of seasons they are lucky to get the support they do. They are in a place of despair with the club and the style of football.

You make some really good points, the atmosphere at Newcastle and Anfield is shocking largely due to the changing demographic of "supporters" that attend matches.
It's only going one way and that's not better.
Old gits like me need to get used to it

We were for 34 years bar the odd good performance. :-)

City fans have always been vocal, yet there is an on-going myth that there is no atmosphere or little support at the Etihad.

Yet, Goodison Park, Anfield, St Jame’s Park, etc, all have great atmospheres.

BTW. I’m not having a go at you. Your points are valid.

And it’s effecting all grounds including our own.

Don’t like our fans being ‘crowd shamed’ due to all the mitigating factors in football impacting on atmosphere. So think it’s right to apply the same courtesy to others.

Personally I think football has been lost at the top level. Success comes at a price, with a changing crowd demographic, corporate seats diminishing the atmosphere, increased prices, smaller ticket allocations for away matches to regular fans (London in particular) etc etc.

Ditto mate. I’m not digging you out either and know you agree as you are one of the more thoughtful posters on this subject and someone who is ars*d enough to try and make difference at the ground. I doth my cap to you for all your work over the years.

I’m only going off what I heard whilst watching the Everton V Newcastle match.

Yet, I was reminded by the Sky commentator that Goodison Park is a cauldron of noise, when it clearly isn’t.

It just frustrates me that certain grounds have a reputation of having a good or a great atmosphere, which they don’t always have, whilst the Etihad apparently hasn’t got a good or great atmosphere, which it does have at times. The Etihad is no different or worse than any other PL ground for an atmosphere.

I don’t disagree the narrative is different. It’s funny though it always seem to relate to Champs lge matches, the criticism, as if some meaningless match at home in the group stages should resemble Boca v River Plate. It’s boring and predictable but not surprising as that sums up most pundits and commentators on TNT/SKY etc
