Atmosphere 2024/25

A lot of Real Madrid fans at the back of 305 block in the East Stand. Probably about 30/40 celebrating jumping up to celebrate the last 2 goals. No fights but it made a bad night worse. And loads and loads of new fans where season ticket holders sit. This is City's fault for raising ticket prices so high that regulars don't show up. It is damaging the atmosphere significantly. I have nothing against new fans coming to the ground but they don't know the songs.

I used to really like European nights because the away fans would be very loud and it would make for a good atmosphere but this season we have had full grounds but full of a new generation of City fans who don't sing and support the team. City need to get the regulars back to European games, but that's probably difficult because football fans are creatures of habit.

For what it's worth, I thought the atmosphere was fantastic tonight. Best since the treble season for me.

It was no Hamburg don't get me wrong, but I thought we were loud and proud tonight, just a shame about the result.

As for the tourists, yes there were a fair few, but it was nowhere near the levels of when we've played Madrid in the past
I'm glad somebody who WENT has posted positively. I WENT as well and thought the crowd did there bit. As soon as it started to go quiet, someone somewhere got it going again.
It was a good atmosphere and the crowd weren't to blame for what happened.

Feel horrible saying this but part of me doesn't want us to finish in the top 4 (or 5). Happily finish 7th or 8th and win the FA Cup and play Europa League. See if the tourists fancy Aris at home on a Thursday night.

Some of my best memories are from that competition. The birth of the Poznan, Salzburg at home with the infamous 'Alan' and that Hamburg home game.

CB3 which during league matches can be like a morgue.
People were joining in the songs, generally shouting encouragement and support.
I do wonder if Blues just like a good moan.
If you think that was a good atmosphere m8,then who am I to argue with you ,if you enjoyed it pal,,good on yer

Agreed but can you imagine how good it would be with the 20 thousand tourists replaced with genuine hard core ....that is what is called the 12th man

It's horrific, what was the split tonight, 25000 tourists?
I’d agree that half the crowd tonight were just spectators at an event. Not sure how many were even football fans, never mind City or Madrid fans. They were just there to say they’d been to an event like that.

If we'd hung on to win 2-1, everyone would've been on here saying how electric it was in the ground tonight

City have never filled the ground in midweek Cup games with season ticket holders. Over the years we've got what you call tourists and I would call new fans. And the proportion is growing as more and more regulars are giving up on the Cup games. And amongst the new fans there are some away fans too. Tonight was particularly bad at the back of 305 block in the part where there are no season ticket holders (the back). There were Real Madrid fans dotted throughout the block, but largely right at the back.

I don't like it much. It bothers me a lot more that the new City fans don't sing. It doesn't help that 115 seems to be diluted on these nights too.

The lad I sat next on the bus to the game had paid £150 to see his first game and was coming to see Madrid.
Contrast that with the Feyernoord fame where I remember a great chat with a bloke called Mick who'd been to well over 1000 City games and I think over 50 grounds. One person I can relate to and one I can't.

Disagree heavily and I’m normally positive SS3 felt like almost every other seat was a tourist. People not celebrating goals or everyone vlogging the game or posing for pictures wasn’t a football crowd that’s for sure…
I take your point regarding the tourists, as it appears everyone else also agrees that it was one of the worst games for it.

There were far more regulars sat around me than there were for the group games, so maybe that's skewing my opinion a little.

I did think the atmosphere was good though, I'm struggling to see how people disagree with that

Get what you saying but knocks us back big time that for future signings etc etc not to mention the all important thing to clubs this day and age

So top 4 or 5 if it has a CL place has to be the target

Not far off fucking it off, the club is being given away, come away barely arsed about the score, sooner be watching the club under Joe Royle compare our following at Blackburn to that sham tonight, I want my club back home and away, not the fucking idiots infiltrating our stands with zero tespect

They were the days

That's your impression but I think you are wrong. Just because they are not season tickets holders doesn't make them none City fans or neutrals. It's the Aguero effect and back to back titles. City's support has grown but they don't know the traditions. City's fanbase will change forever if the old generation gives up. They are imo based on the volume of noise coming out of the South Stand and on the number of season ticket no shows in Cup games.

Yes I agree. Hopefully the Board understand everything flows from on the pitch unless you have marketing and media behind you like the rags.
There's nothing wrong with tourist City fans coming but there's a fuck of a lot wrong with away tourists, away fan's coming and sitting in stands supposedly for our fans

I gave up the champ lge cup scheme a few years ago due to cost, plus tbh it was never fun the final few years as 102 ended up full of away fans time and time again. But tonight my son was desperate to go - "please, please, i've never been to a champions league game, and everyone at school supports Real Madrid so this will make them jealous".
Terrible reasoning, but he genuinely was desperate to go (he's 8) (and don't get me started on the fact that school kids in England genuinely claim that a foreign team are their no 1 team... He's surrounded by Madrid fans, rags, and liverpool at school. Not one person goes to games, but the fact he has a season ticket doesn't even give him any "cred" as they think watching on the telly is enough)

So i gave in and got 2 tickets - but for the family stand as a one off, as it was a lot cheaper than in our own seats in 102. I've been going since age 10 in 1985 and barely missed a home game league or cup (til giving up champ league a couple of seasons ago) for the last 35 years so how could i really say no, as a one off..

Big mistake, as he ended up swamped in a large group of twentysomething half and half scarf wearing spanish people.... My son loves city, he proudly comes to games, and i'm proud that after mum died city let her ticket pass to him. But he started crying. A few minutes in. He was overwhelmed and not in a good way. This is not how it should be. This is a kid who has chanted in the derby, been to 2 fa cup finals and coped with it all, he's on about 70 games now. But stuck with big tall away fans in the family stand, he reverted back to the 2 year old who cried at his first match when Phil Foden scored and the place got too much for him.
Away fans, at such large numbers, should not be in the home end.
/speech over.

(and his words at half time, from his quiet face were "i thought it would be fun..." - heartbreaking)

(We'll be back in our own seats Saturday, let's hope for a cracker...)
