Atmosphere 2024/25

Fair enough, you didn’t go “all in” on OSC’s. I just don’t think it was part of the problem yesterday. I went with the OSC, got my ticket off my own points and cup scheme membership, everyone around me on the coach was a regular and majority season ticket holders. My point was also that it’s mutually beneficial for OSC’s to get final allocations as it’s not as easy to sell Wembley tickets as it was back in 2011, 2013, 2014. That should be taken into consideration as well.
Why do you think it’s fair that OSC members get first dibs on the cheapest tickets even if they’ve never been to a game? I have never heard an OSC member say WHY they think it’s fair?

It’s disgusting that, new fans prioritised. Watching Everton at last Goodison match now, tell you for certain there’s none of that OSC bollocks going on, and you can 100% tell.

Palace fans are great. Closest thing we have to ultras in this country.

Is there any reason why we can’t /wont do something similar even better than that. Can it be that difficult? Get everyone to wear a colour to stand out , bang a drum , jump up and down together.

or are we too posh/ shy/ apathetic/conservative to do that.

You have to admit that it looks great and really creates an atmosphere.

What’s your thoughts?
Yeah I do think a bit of this would help, it doesn't have to be full on ultra stuff but a bit of organization and orchestration would help....I was in the 1894 block yesterday and really felt like it could do with a couple of lads who stand up facing the crowd who kind of lead the songs, and get everyone organised, a bit like they do in the concourse?

Question for 1894, were the club allowing anyone who requested a ticket in the 1894 section to buy a ticket in that section, or did they definitely sell just to people on the list? Or did loads of people who were on the list end up not buying in that section? I was on your list but allocated a ticket out of the section, rang up to change it (3 of us) to the 1894,section. Told the club I needed one for a lad (regular ST holder) who hadn’t got on the 1894 list and they offered me one in the row behind which was also in the 1894 section, which suggests the club were offering your tickets to people not in your list. And this was in day one or day two of the sales
Everyone on our list had to qualify to get a ticket (and could only buy tickets when it reached their criteria).

We ended up with 500.

Unfortunately, a fair few jumped the gun and got tickets through their OSCs (in other areas), which meant some seats were released. Probably ended up with around 350-400 in there (which is still a good number IMO). It just wasn’t our day, despite our best attempts.

What do you think stopped those people who signed up to create an atmosphere from actually making any noise at all?

I’m the person who organised 1894’s section for the final yesterday.

I appreciate emotions are high, and people love a whinge, but some of the comments about 1894 (and the fans who took part) are absolutely pathetic.

We put in hours of time and effort to create something yesterday. Around 30 fans basically missed their day out to ensure the display pre-match went well.

You just have to hand it to Palace and their fans. They were brilliant and they outsung us. That was the biggest day in their history vs our third final in 3 years, so it’s only natural that their fans were more up for it.

Loads of people on this thread are throwing advice around like they know what they’re on about. Use a drum, have capos, sing this song, not that one. Group together here. Wear these clothes (FFS). We’ve been trying stuff for over a decade, we aren’t stupid.

When the atmosphere is brilliant (like it was against Wolves the other week) who’s coming on here and crediting us? When it’s terrible some posters blame us like it’s our fault.

We can lead a horse to water, but we can’t force it to drink. You can either do something about the atmosphere, or you can sit there and whinge and hope someone else does something - but if you’re doing fuck all yourself, you can shove your ‘positive criticism’.

Let’s take yesterday on the chin. Learn something from it. And let’s continue trying to be positive and improve things (rather than shooting down anyone who is trying).

What did you contribute yesterday? How did you help the atmosphere?

Ultimately, you’ve done fuck all. But you’re trying to give the people trying their best shit. That’s a crap mentality.

There were tons of people trying their best in our section yesterday. There’s only so much you can get going when no other fucker joins in!

I didn’t say I thought it was fair. I said one way or another they shift tickets and probably organise hundreds of coach loads to get to Wembley, so it’s beneficial to the club as it helps to sell the ticket allocation, the semi final being a prime example. Take your complaints to one of the City Matters reps if it bothers you that much. Ask the question. Perhaps they have other justifications for it that you don’t know about.

I contributed the same as everyone else in the ground , not enough. However I didn't sign up to sit in a section specifically labelled as being there to create an atmosphere or call my block the singing section, curious as to why anyone else would pick to sit in that section and then stand there arms folded in silence, and for what's its worth understanding how to make it better won't happen if every piece of critism is met with " well what did you do"

As another old boomer fart I'm nearly 69 I have to take issue with you over the Màine Rd atmosphere. It could be absolutely fantastic , Charlton promotion, Borough semi, most games against the rags or dippers. I can also remember games in the old first division against Wimbledon and Oxford with well under 20k on and the place like a morgue. Far prefer Maine Rd to the Etihad but it was not always the Bear pit it's made out to be. I absolutely loved the place the atmosphere, the pubs the smell of fag's and piss but the atmosphere could be hit and miss. It was never the same after the Kippax was demolished though
Completely agree it wasn’t the same after standing Kippax came down. I smoked at the time so that never bothered me. I packed up years ago but being around smokers still doesn’t bother me either.

So you’re giving it out to other people when admittedly you didn’t do enough yourself?!

I can take criticism if it’s well intentioned, but you’ve come on here to have a go at people who’re atleast trying things. You didn’t give any constructive advice, you are just shitting on what we tried to achieve.

If people like yourselves shoot down any and every attempt to do something positive, where does that lead?

If you’d have said ‘how could we make the singing sections louder?’ Then I’d engage and have a proper conversation. But you’re not interested in that. You’d rather point fingers and write it off as a failure, rather than try to learn from it and improve going forward.

Apathy!

You created a silent singing section, can you describe it as anything but a failure?

Yesterday was the quietest safe standing game that I have ever been to. Some too drunk to stand. Some sat down. Many quiet. Tried my best. Sore throat and lost voice today. That was quieter than against Wigan. More photos than chants. Twelfth man?! £125 to stand and yell, only to be joined infrequently, at spells. Football fans have made way to entertainment and cameras. Many fans made an effort yet it was dampened far too often.

The sun didn't help keep people on their toes. City were uninspiring as a team. It happens. Some people need to give their head a wobble and review why they go to games. Not all. Just enough to water down a fanbase.

That's what I would have also said should we have won.

Yes I would agree I don’t understand why we can’t get everyone in ssl to wear blue for big games, completely against a full ultra section like Palace but it would help get everyone going.

It failed in the sense that it didn’t improve the atmosphere.

But there’s tons that it did do, like the fact it engaged hundreds of fans who actively want to try and improve the atmosphere. We’re in a WhatsApp group. Loads of ideas and feedback coming forward for future sections from the people who actually tried to do something positive.

It’s not about failing and succeeding in individual games. It’s about constantly improving, and yesterday gives us more information and experience to achieve that goal.

Atleast I tried something. Again, what are you contributing here (other than abusing people who get off their arse and do something)?

Atmosphere was crap but very unfair to have a pop at the group who try to get atmosphere going. I include myself that after a day on the beer, being up from 5.30am that by the time the actual game comes I am flagging. The match also makes a difference. Palace are an exception with their ultra style support and their drum where their atmosphere is a constant but most fans go with the game, minus the odd singsong in between. Our play doesn't generate a buzz or excitement that leads to the stands. The slow crap build up has an impact on the atmosphere.

If you asked people here ‘Do you want a drum and capos at City’, you’d get a few who’d say yes and a ton who’d say ‘fuck that’.

One persons idea of a brilliant atmosphere is another person’s worst nightmare and a literal reason to stop attending games.

I personally prefer a traditional atmosphere over ultras…. I just find ultras incredibly cringeworthy. Like, you’re a fully grown bloke wearing a balaclava jumping up and down humming rhythms. :’)

Give me Etihad vs Madrid in ‘23, or Liverpool in ‘19 over any ultra styled atmosphere all day!

I think they’re cringy as fuck, but that’s just me. I really can’t be doing with the whole European style orchestrated, one bellend with no shirt on telling every one what and when to sing, and some other whopper banging a fucking drum. No, not for me thanks.
