Atmosphere 2024/25

What do you think stopped those people who signed up to create an atmosphere from actually making any noise at all?
I was in the singing section - I sang and also tried to get a lot of songs going through the match. Others around me joined in, I joined in with theirs. But not far away other groups in different directions were singing other songs - so it wasn’t carrying. The noise from the Palace end with their drums and overall participation disrupted the noise in our end. There were also clearly plenty of drinkers who were energy sapped from the sun and the early start. The early goal for Palace didn’t help and the match was frustrating on the pitch, which impacted the singing. As for the make up of the singing section, ticket prices may have played a part, only half of the block set aside was taken up. This may have been Blues who bought cheaper seats? Those who took up the remaining seats may not have been your average singers. All possible factors IMO, not sure criticism can be laid at 1894, every effort was put in to making the section a success.

We had Mike Joyce sitting in tge stands yesterday..why didnt someone bring him a fkin drum!
He could have rattled off the intro to the Queen is Dead!

It failed in the sense that it didn’t improve the atmosphere.

But there’s tons that it did do, like the fact it engaged hundreds of fans who actively want to try and improve the atmosphere. We’re in a WhatsApp group. Loads of ideas and feedback coming forward for future sections from the people who actually tried to do something positive.

It’s not about failing and succeeding in individual games. It’s about constantly improving, and yesterday gives us more information and experience to achieve that goal.

Atleast I tried something. Again, what are you contributing here (other than abusing people who get off their arse and do something)?
One thing I would suggest if/when we get there again is to ask for a block of 400 seats or whatever the number is in the top tier at the very back. There are plenty in the top tier who will get involved if someone gets it going. The roof helps the sound and likely to get more people involved. £50 a ticket too instead of £125. Seems a bit of a no brainer to me. Let the arm folders who like to stand take the safe standing seats downstairs.

At least you lot are giving it a go though so fair play.

It’s disgusting that, new fans prioritised. Watching Everton at last Goodison match now, tell you for certain there’s none of that OSC bollocks going on, and you can 100% tell.
Classy that they didn’t indulge in a gratuitous pitch invasion too. Frankly we have thousands of fans who just sit on their hands and then balloon about taking selfies on the pitch when we win something and it’s small time. And before anyone says otherwise I appreciate that not everyone who goes on the pitch who sits on their hands but it’s plenty. We have a poor atmosphere at home and yet we seem to think a pitch invasion changes that, it fucking doesn’t. Also for anyone thinking of doing it in future I’ve got 2 mates who have had their season tickets removed for the entirety of this season (but money not refunded) and tbf they are home and away regulars - the club clearly making examples

If you asked people here ‘Do you want a drum and capos at City’, you’d get a few who’d say yes and a ton who’d say ‘fuck that’.

One persons idea of a brilliant atmosphere is another person’s worst nightmare and a literal reason to stop attending games.

I personally prefer a traditional atmosphere over ultras…. I just find ultras incredibly cringeworthy. Like, you’re a fully grown bloke wearing a balaclava jumping up and down humming rhythms. :’)

Give me Etihad vs Madrid in ‘23, or Liverpool in ‘19 over any ultra styled atmosphere all day!
To you and the 1894 group, keep up the good work mate. You do and have made a difference and it’s admirable you guys are prepared to give up your own time to make a difference. Tifos and flags looked great but if people choose not to sing it’s not on you.

That’s fair - we have discussed it internally previously. A big chunk of the ‘regulars’ are really opposed to going further back (worse view and less engaged in the game), but definitely willing to try different things.

Even going further back in level 1 would help, but the price of tickets makes it difficult.

We did try a singing section in SSL3 against Leicester and I thought that worked pretty well.

Yesterday we needed around 30 people in level 1 for the display too.

Absolutely mate, it was justified in 2012 but it’s a bit silly now. Was waiting like half an hour In the stands for the scruffs to leg it after we won it vs West Ham in 2014.

True. Forgot about that.

Worth a thought though. The view from up there is fine. Lot of old school go up there too. When it does get going it’s pretty loud.

Saying that, for all the reasons already given, I don’t think it would have made much difference yesterday. Everyone knew what was coming once the pen was missed.

You can tell Palace fans are coordinated and likely practicing often. They really did bring the atmosphere. 10/10 for them, us, jumbled mess mostly 4/10.

Palace fans are great. Closest thing we have to ultras in this country.

Is there any reason why we can’t /wont do something similar even better than that. Can it be that difficult? Get everyone to wear a colour to stand out , bang a drum , jump up and down together.

or are we too posh/ shy/ apathetic/conservative to do that.

You have to admit that it looks great and really creates an atmosphere.

What’s your thoughts?
Someone on here suggested it 5 years back and was laughed out of the forum. Gotta start somewhere though, a song/chant not player related (otherwise dies out with player leaving) that we can all get behind. Get chatGPT on it, everyone have a go, submit it to the forum for a poll, can even get it to do a European style drum beat for it.

The club really need to listen too though, no point everyone split across stands, we need an “end” for any song to take off.

It’s like being at a game in the MLS, including the song sheet. It makes a noise with the drum and difficult to compete. Give me our away atmosphere anytime of the day.

Yesterday was the quietest safe standing game that I have ever been to. Some too drunk to stand. Some sat down. Many quiet. Tried my best. Sore throat and lost voice today. That was quieter than against Wigan. More photos than chants. Twelfth man?! £125 to stand and yell, only to be joined infrequently, at spells. Football fans have made way to entertainment and cameras. Many fans made an effort yet it was dampened far too often.

The sun didn't help keep people on their toes. City were uninspiring as a team. It happens. Some people need to give their head a wobble and review why they go to games. Not all. Just enough to water down a fanbase.

That's what I would have also said should we have won.
Spot on !

Strange the fanatics of Palace only take half a 30 quid allocation at The Etihad and it wasn’t that long ago i was watching a cup tie at Selhurst Park with a full 4000 away allocation and not enough away tickets and a deserted home end, and here we are there fans are the benchmark and ours are shit.
Totally agree, if we want to talk about plastics as they do….

This was the issue. You couldn’t hear the lower tier from the upper tier because of the hum of noise from the Palace fans. Lots were trying to get songs going all game but they weren’t spreading. When that has gone on for a while people give up.

I sat in the top tier waiting for the whole of the bottom behind the net to get going, it never did, not once. I must admit I was concentrating on those expensive seats, a seat counters work was never truly done until you saw people in them, I was curious as to why they made us all wait so long, were they rich, imposters, desperate, stooges, maybe in years to come a documentary will be made about those buyers of the last 100 seats, a where are they now kind of thing
