Atmosphere 2024/25

That’s fair - we have discussed it internally previously. A big chunk of the ‘regulars’ are really opposed to going further back (worse view and less engaged in the game), but definitely willing to try different things.

Even going further back in level 1 would help, but the price of tickets makes it difficult.

We did try a singing section in SSL3 against Leicester and I thought that worked pretty well.

Yesterday we needed around 30 people in level 1 for the display too.
I think the singing section against Leicester worked really well, as the noise carried and more people joined in. Partly why I think ss3 is the loudest part of the ground

Keep up the good work! I hope you realise the huge level of support you have amongst our fans.

Strange the fanatics of Palace only take half a 30 quid allocation at The Etihad and it wasn’t that long ago i was watching a cup tie at Selhurst Park with a full 4000 away allocation and not enough away tickets and a deserted home end, and here we are there fans are the benchmark and ours are shit.
Spot on.

I have no beef with them and am happy for them to win something but the pinnacle of support? Dancing cheerleaders and drums?

Piss off with that.

They probably all got up at 10am and wandered over on one tube ride or two to sit in the cool part of the stadium. Whereas we have a 16 hour day and get cooked. No wonder they were louder.

i bet we would have been better with the usual 3000 away fans, maybe if we get there again we can ask for a reduced allocation, i certainly wouldn't have missed the ignorant dinosaurs around me

I’ll probably get slaughtered for saying this, but we could do with a break from Wembley. It really has become a bit monotonous, especially when we get beat.

Their fans were really good yesterday, however it's all drums, tifos and a load of stuff that really doesn't appeal to me but fair enough.
I echo your point about their fans generally being shite until very recently. Please let's not try too hard to be like them and stay with a traditional identity......maybe I'm just an old man though.

if we had to get dressed up like a right said fred tribute act and sit in the ground an hour before kick off i would give it a swerve.

I appreciate it isn’t for everyone, but when that amount of (Palace) fans take part in a march to the stadium, you know they are going to create a great atmosphere.

It’s interesting that the Police are now allowing such marches to take place and to go ahead.

I dread asking some mates to walk to the Ethad from Asda. They Uber everywhere. What chance do we have? Still, quicker than Metrolink.

Wouldn’t be out of place in the MLS.

I sat in the top tier waiting for the whole of the bottom behind the net to get going, it never did, not once. I must admit I was concentrating on those expensive seats, a seat counters work was never truly done until you saw people in them, I was curious as to why they made us all wait so long, were they rich, imposters, desperate, stooges, maybe in years to come a documentary will be made about those buyers of the last 100 seats, a where are they now kind of thing
You are dead right that a Seat Counters work is never done. Did you spot that weird little group of 8-10 empty seats in the bottom tier towards the half way line? On the north side of the stadium? All I can think of is a group of wealthy fans or players’ family who couldn’t go at the last minute for some reason.

Fans of most clubs at that end of Wembley don't normally turn up.

Stood in the baking sun, whilst the other end of Wembley is nice and cool in the shade.
i was in that sun trap it wasnt nice, first and last time , back to the top tier if we are there again,

The difference was the day.

City fans had an early start.
Drinking beer on the coaches on the way down.
Drinking in the pubs before the match.
Being stuck in the wrong end of Wembley, baking in the Sun.
The general apathy of another Wembley trip.
The team not playing well, and the fans expecting the worst.
Palace scored the first goal.
The singing section didn’t work.

Palace fans getting up later on in the morning.
Leaving home in good time.
Meeting in Covent Garden for a few drinks.
Doing the march.
All knowing what to do, and what to sing, following the Ultras.
The Ultras singing section worked.
Being in the right Wembley end, in the shade.
Scoring first.
A team that has been playing well, and has been punching above it’s weight recently.
Their first FA Cup final win, and their last FA Cup final since 2016, 9 years ago.

I think the Wembley apathy is a really valid point. A lot of us have been every time and are in a routine now. Others burn themselves out on the way down and don’t go for it in the ground.

Your point about the singing section is spot on. It didn’t work. I was in 115 and didn’t hear anything. I think lots of people go in there because they want atmosphere but don’t want to create it themselves. They want to be surrounded by others that do.

A rare final so they were always going to be loud but Palace fans were great on the day, if you like that sort of enforced drum led thing. They made a good noise though. I’m not having anyone tell me they’re great fans though. Anything north of Watford and thier incredible following drops by 60%. Normally their attendances fall through the floor at home in cup comps too.

That’s a fair point.

They don’t travel.

And they hardly made a noise at the Etihad.

They were at home at Wembley, so they made the most of it.

I would never turn up the chance of a trophy, but I honestly think as a fan base we need a break from Wembley and the whole day.
