Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

This is all definitely a thing.
Devon based blue, and not a local.
Tough time with it all last season, but wanted to crack on this year.
Up for Napoli, watched the youth..... questioned at the door at Mary D's to excess(again ).....I'm a fat, balding carrot cruncher.....not sure I look or sound like an ultra.
Into the Townley Saturday, good atmosphere, made to feel welcome...ticket this time in obviously a different part of the ground. People around me, lovely guys....sorry to ask, where did you get your ticket etc etc.

Been coming as much as I can since I was 14..... really enjoyed the game Saturday, join in with songs, chants etc...but the atmosphere has definitely changed.......

.......Am I welcome.......
Fans like you are exactly what we want and need

It's wierd our support.

We are acknowledged as having one of, if not THE best away followings in England. Great mix of songs, old and new, noisy as fuck and fully engaged with the team on the pitch. The coach and the players love it, rival supporters are in awe of it. Proud and loud.

Home, I dunno, it's all a bit disengaged and apathetic.

It could be argued that the away support is more important and valuable to the team than at home. So, at least its the right round. The Clubs ticketing policy is partly to blame. The fact is that our "working class" hardcore local support is spending money on the necessities of life rather than forking out for increasingly expensive matchday tickets. Replaced by a middle class totally dispassionate demograhic, who'd rather shit in their manicured hands and clap than lower themselves to sing and shout at a football match.

Until that is fixed, it will only get worse.

The Amorim song is absolutely class. I love it. I will continue to revel in their misery for as long as I can.
It is. And like it or not, it’s catchy and gets loads singing it. But who are we singing it to mate? Apparently, as the Rags weren’t tuning into our game and the Burnley fans aren’t invested in it there’s no point! Funnily enough, I doubt any Blackburn fans were tuning into the game either but that didn’t stop Burnley fans singing their No Nay Never anti-Blackburn song.

Fact is that football fans all over the world sing songs about their most hated rivals whether they’re playing them or not. People need to get the fuck over themselves.

Was about to post the same thing. I find it really odd when we spend most the time signing about older players who didn’t contribute or win anywhere near as much as the current crop.

Find it a bit odd. Particularly as Dzeko isn’t exactly aguero levels in terms of contributions to city

infact he was like Sibierski in constantly being moaned about! ha

I do think our library of songs is more suited to away games.

In SSL1 (especially in block 015) the atmosphere is brilliant. But, admittedly, the songs that keep the atmosphere going in that section are not brilliant for getting the rest of the stadium involved.

I'd include songs like:

- The reds are going down
- We're all going Istanbul
- Empty seats at home
- Edin Dzeko
- Best defence in Europe
etc

The songs that tend to get the whole stadium going are:

Blue moon,
Best team in the land and all the world,
WNRH,
Stand up if you love City,
etc

I do feel there are times when the singing section could do more to engage the wider stadium. I also, definitely, think there are times where the wider stadium ARE being encouraged, but do not join in for various reasons.

What I would say is when the players really need us on the pitch we are there, and we generate a brilliant atmosphere. There's a reason why players like Valverde and Trent Alexander Arnold have listed the Etihad amongst the most difficult atmospheres to play in. We are too hard on ourselves sometimes. Our support is definitely amongst the best in the UK whichever way you judge it (numbers, noise, loyalty etc).

For me Dodge the biggest issue is the fact that for at least 3 years every season ticket that hasn’t been renewed had been replaced with a day tripper and over time that’s meant thousands of extra disengaged day trippers spread all over the ground making it even harder for chants to soread

PS I particularly hope we smash Brentford for you on Sunday. Me and my youngest will be giving it plenty for you, whilst watching out for dickhead stewards of course

The irony of WWYWYWS never stops amusing me. Cos when we were shit our loyalty was widely acknowledged by all, including the media and other clubs.

Yep - in '99 our average attendance was the 13th highest in the country.

If you look at 04/05, we had the 18th highest gates in Europe, ahead of clubs like:

Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, PSG, Napoli, Lyon, Feyenoord, Benfica, Porto.

Our support has always been brilliant!

I love hearing it..........shows what clueless whoppers they are.

Scoring 10 when we were shit................................

Talking about 10, when we are shit I remember going to liverpool in the league cup and losing 4 0 under the squeaky one, and then going back in the league on Saturday and thinking at least we won’t get beat 4 0, we didn’t it was 6 0, 10 in the week. In the pub afterwards the dippers were praising our support as being fantastic - we weren’t an Arab owned threat then

they were still slashing us in the 70's

I was in 001 with Mrs S on Saturday. We used to be surrounded by fellow season ticket holders and made friends with many. Now only one or two left. Replaced by non season ticket holders (you can tell as they don't know where their seats are, are carrying bags from the club shop and film everything). All of them impeccably behaved but not interested in singing or shouting. I was getting very funny looks when Phil got booked for nothing and I reacted naturally. I felt a little sad when Burnley fans out sung us whilst they were still in the game. The atmosphere is different to what it used too be.

Exactly what happened. That moment defined the atmosphere for the rest of the game.
So they tried turning the PA off for the Derby and it worked, however they also tried it for Napoli and Burnley, although it was a bit more subtle. I think this could be a step in the right direction, however they need to be willing to give it time.

It's as if they have a fear of it being quiet at any given point, because they seem to turn the PA off for 10 seconds or so and if it doesn't immediately become a cauldron of noise they turn it back on.

As you say that defined the whole game. If you get a stadium wide chant going before kick off it gets everyone in the right mindset, which didn't end up being the case on saturday

It’s the usual crowd near me in 001, about 20 people or more who’ve been there as long as I have which is ten years now since I moved in from the North Stand. Champions League is mainly tourists though.

All Blues are welcome. Don’t worry about the small minority of xenophobes.

The reason for the discrepancy in songs is the roof. To get a song going in the south stand lower needs clapping. Listen to the difference in the songs that come from the south stand upper tier because the anthems bounce off the roof when they get started.

The answer is the new stand. I think if it's done properly people will get a shock at the difference.

Never underestimate the significance of crowd psychology.
