Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

We used to go to CB3, loved the halfway line vantage point, but honestly it had become a complete morgue. Full of away fans, casual non-City football tourists, disinterested corporates, bored Dads whose young kids wanted to see City (but the kids are too young to contribute to the atmosphere), and social media influencers bloggers vloggers tik-tokers, so it became awful. Silent, dull, distant, it started comparing badly to watching it from home on TV where we'd have better food, cheaper beer, less cold, no travel, and less costs. Better atmosphere in our sitting room with me and my 2 lads at least supporting City and shouting at the TV.

Moved to family stand a few times, but it was dire for Real Madrid last year, I think the vlogger getting his hair cut was in our section.

We're matchday purchasers, so don't always get to choose, but my lads are only interested now in SS3, and we've had some great buzzing atmospheres up there, against United and Liverpool were particularly good. A good bunch up the back often get a bit of rhythm going banging the cladding and chanting.

I was a bit shocked yesterday, thousands streaming out of SS3 well before the end with the game in the balance. The singing participation was well below normal as well. Also noticing more and more tourists up there, they're welcome to come, but they add nothing to atmosphere. (Also the early leavers affliction is a local issue not a tourist one).

For me, it's simply down to how you sell the tickets. Arsenal, Liverpool and United have 5 game purchase history requirements, so more likely the buyers are real fans who attend a bit. Other games don't have that. The atmosphere is really affected. When we beat Arsenal 4-1 in '23 I was in CB 3, absolutely buzzing, loads of real City fans around us, all giving it to Arsenal. A few weeks before we were in the same section for Bayern Munich in the UCL, it wasn't terrible but the difference was really obvious compared to Arsenal.

Selling tickets on a points based system, when long term attenders get purchasing preference in certain areas really helps to get the right people in the same sections. We used to do it like that.

Now we just sell £35 memberships, and anyone that buys one can compete with me for tickets. I'll make more noise, but I'll spend a lot less. The club accountants choose our matchday supporters now.

The club's selling policies are absolutely killing the "product". It may even be too late. We're not alone, read Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Chelsea forums, same issues. Clubs chasing tourist £'s and are killing the atmosphere which attracts the tourists. They're so blind to what's happening....because they don't attend games like we do, and they don't care.

Getting kinda bored with it now myself. English football may well crash and burn, as a formerly great day put, ruined by the number crunchers. The tourists will soon realise it's shit, and move on to something else. The clubs will want us back, but we'll have moved on as well, watching local football or other sports.

Sorry for the gloom. I used to love the buzz of going.

2022/23 was the last season we went to over 15 games that season, home and away most home. Always went in SS3 loved it.
Since then its been a nightmare getting tickets, if we can we are sat miles from each other. Or its a low rating game or above the away fans surrounded by first time families.
I think we have been to 6 games since then, sat apart from each other.
We are out of the habit of going now.

was an average atmosphere sunday, good and bad parts. like most PL games tbf across the country.

The club do need to have a look at the pre match and HT 'entertainment' as its diabolical
Just turning it off would be a start. You can't even hear yerself think let alone talk. Keep it for the online viewers...but turn it off for us poor fckers in the ground!

Don't go, seriously stop going...
Sick of hearing moaning **** on here
Do you know how entitled you sound ?
Fucking embarassing !
Spot on. No one is forcing them to support City. Why do they come on here and tell us all that they don’t attend matches any more. This is a forum for City fans not former ones.

If you actually read 'City Fans' posts on Blue Moon, you would understand why City fans aren't going as much as they used to go.

Don't worry, there will be an extra 8000 seats to fill this year when NSL2 opens. Which means there will be plenty of available empty seats for City fans to sit next to each other. Brighton will be a good start on Wednesday night.

Brighton Update:
Level 0 -1,189
Level 1- 834
Level 3- 2,496

Ah so this forum is only for city fans that attend matches? I never knew that. Is there a minimum amount of matches you have to attend before you can post?

Didn't enjoy yesterday. Felt very grumpy. Was sandwiched between 4 camera-men (one had a Gopro). One just over had a Chelsea background on his phone. Love going to the football but it's getting embarrassing when half the stand won't cheer or show any "limbs" because they want social media hits or photos for their lobby way walls. The Chelsea fan restrained himself well and kept quiet throughout. His half and half scarf was the only away colours. Good ol' half and half scarves.

After full-time, I generally amble from 011 toward the North Stand, at a slalom amongst the cameras. The price of success and popularity is gradually eroding our fanbase and vocal support. All for anyone coming to the game but at least be emotionally vested in the club and join in. Too many cameras. Can the club start cracking down on videos and over-photography before imposing any more complex rules on seasoncard holders.

The balance at the Etihad is so far off.
Remember when the club used to announce over the Tannoy that you were not allowed to film the game and stewards would tell people to put cameras away when they got them out taking pictures or filming the game during play?

The club’s own Ts&Cs say this:

To avoid this, for a good ten years at the Etihad, maybe more, stewards in the ground used to be very active in telling people to put cameras away whilst play was going on.

You rarely ever saw anyone with their phone out during the game. And this includes after smartphones becoming a thing.

That has completely disappeared now. People just sit there filming the game and apart from the odd fans shouting ‘put your fucking phone away you fucking tourist’ at them because their screens catch your eye and divert your attention away from the game, no stewards say a Dicky Bird to them anymore.

We don’t need a TV show on the screens with punditry and chat from randoms who aren’t ex-City players or managers, just fans who got employed by the club.

Just put some tunes on over the speakers and stick old goals on the screens. Nobody needs anything else inside the ground.

EDIT… other than putting other scores up on the screen when other games are taking place.

I sit towards the front of 315 and on Sunday there was a bloke on the second row who had a GoPro camera and was holding it up on a stick for the whole game. Not a usual face, and it's very much consistent season card holders around where I sit, so dare I suggest he may be a "tourist" who purchased his ticket from one of our wonderful partners.

Bizarrely he wasn't just filming the game though, he kept rotating the camera around to cover all parts of the stadium and I'd say was filming different areas of the crowd as much as was recording the game itself. At times blatantly doing a 180 and filming the fans directly behind him, who pulled faces and made grumbles of disapproval but didn't make too much of a big deal about it.

Strange behaviour but a sign of the times, Premier League football is more and more becoming a treat, a day out, a one-off experience for visitors who can then take back merchandise (and match footage) to tell their friends and family all about their trip to a top level football match.

Oh right as I am not willing to do my 600 mile round trip anymore, to sit apart from lad surrounded by tourists and a pay over 100quid and a 12hr car journey. The atmosphere as flat as a witches tit I'm now an ex City fan ?.
Kin hell is this what our fan base is coming to ?
Decades of following City 1000s and 1000s of pounds spent traveling from SE Kent.
We use to be surrounded by City fans, Etihad felt like ours not a theme park.

The way we are now treated by the club isnt great, we all know the issues.

Yes there are shed loads of tickets for Brighton, great if your local. I will be surprised if Brighton sell out for the same reason we arent going !

I still support City but the flame has dimmed. Not gone out yet, but watching on tv is now a better option for me sadly. I can be in bed straight after the Brighton game instead of 4am the next day

Exactly that!

They need to cater for everyone for the music aswell, seems to be sole focus on Dance music last few seasons. Teams like Manchester Storm etc do a specific playlist made by one of the players every game, that would work.

Stadium announcer is cringy as anything, no need to add the Pep is greatest manager in the world after the team read outs, we don't need every time someone from city warms up before the game the over intro.

The sort of stuff they were doing pregame when we had the little stage outside the north stand, did interviews, live bands surely they can bring something like that back again.

Grounds fastly becoming like Arsenals in the cheesyness

Do my head in mate, entitled cunts, we hit the jackpot, we have won everything in the last 10 years & people still moan.

I'm not entitled just pissed of that someone who has been following for over 60yrs can't get tickets next to his son.

Had many great times in doing this sadly for me not anymore. I sit at home on my dodge stick with me missus and WhatsApp my lad.

Like you say success has brought in new fans and us FOC aren't needed for ticket n pint per game.

Im happy that some fans are still happy with their matchday experience. Im not but I'm not entitled.

Im finished on this subject

Happy new year blues

Who said I don't attend matches any more? Like many others, I'm fucking pissed off at the way the club is treating supporters, particularly season ticket holders.

The success we have had has exceeded my wildest dreams, it's been an incredible 10 years but the success has come at a cost. Just look at the reason's why there were fan protests, are the people that organised those entitled?

Sorry mate but that's a poor post from someone who is normally a good poster. There are plenty of fans who have stopped going for various reasons. To label any of them as former City fans simply because they don't go to matches anymore is way off. This is a forum for City fans, yes, but many of the fans on here are not match-going fans. If something stopped you going to matches that wouldn't make you a former City fan.
