Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I think I will be writing to a few people at City with this information. If fans are told to leave, then thrown out when they want to applaud the team it is not on.
Is this a weekly thing. ?
I’ve been asked to leave whilst watching the highlights on the screens every time I try . To be fair this is after pep and players have walked around .

I don’t argue as they can escalate and you are always classed as abusive and in the wrong if you argue. Last time it happened a female steward (looked in charge ) was being proper sarcy shouting and waving bye at me

I agree arguing is not advised.

I just blank people like that, don't converse.

One super fan poster claims they always wait behind 15 minutes after home games being starting to leave.

I thought they were chatting rhubarb, or their time perception isn't great, or both.

It's not bollocks or else why would we have multiple threads blaming, away fans location, acoustics even fucking style of football being played for the silence in the stadium. It been crap for years and is only getting worse .
Agreed…..

It’s the kind of role that attracts losers with low self esteem who set great store in claiming the smallest of hi vis victories . Some of them are utter scumbags. I suspect many blues who’ve fallen victim to situations like the one you describe would love 5 mins in a locked room with the steward involved.

The Future`s Bright, The Future`s Blue - What is the best chance of lifting the atmosphere?

Ten goals, debutants scoring and performing well, 11 points above the rags and ragettes, League Cup semi-final, well placed in the Champions League, FA Cup draw on Monday, second in the PL and a new stand to open in 2026.

There is much to look forward to.

We are all on the same side here. Differences of opinion are bound to exist. However, if we focus on the facts and be objective there remains a good chance of real progress.

Lets work together. We are now at a crucial point where well thought through proposals about what is the best chance of improving the atmosphere in the stadium can be taken forward.

There is time for the leadership of the atmosphere group to pause and an opportunity for mature reflection.

It is very important to have the debate through this forum, especially now that atmosphere group have taken an early stance to consolidate in the small South Stand lower. This seems unnecessarily premature as does the questionnaire which is weighted towards the South Stand as other posters have mentioned.

Reasonable questions have been asked on this forum to try and understand the logic of the atmosphere group`s current stance.

Despite the best efforts from active fans, fundamentally there are inherent issues with the South Stand that cannot be overcome if CITY want a proper home end.

Atmosphere Improvement

All views are welcome. Lets focus on facts.

The club is investing significantly in the North Stand and surrounds the benefit of CITY fans and to help ensure the financial sustainability of the club for the long term. Further information on the North Stand is intended to be released in 2026.

We must make the most of this opportunity.

The best chance is to give backing to the North Stand, accept that some will want to remain in the South Stand, and for as many as possible from the atmosphere group to review their position and set up in the North Stand. Let us have unity and common sense.

North Stand - Advantages - Large on ONE level - 9,500 seats * / safe standing

What do you agree with below?

What do you not agree with and why?
  1. One large home end.
  2. New, wrap-round design, better acoustics, visually impressive and dominant.
3,000 minimum rail seats /safe standing.
  3. 1,500 ? extra rail seats can be incorporated down part of both sides.
  4. 4,700? General Admission (GA) seats.
  5. There is more chance these fans will join in the singing. The rear and the side rail seats (if added) will envelop the GA. The sound will BOOM from the back and below. More fans will be able join in on ONE level.
  6. Pricing - lower priced rail seats compared with the existing South Stand lower level.
  7. 3,000 rail seats will probably be the cheapest in the stadium.
  8. No impact on the majority of existing fans in the current North Stand on the new level.
  9. 300 GA+ seats near the front of the huge, new level will have no impact on the atmosphere that can be generated by 9,200 fans behind.
  10. A proper, big, dominant, visually impressive home end on level 2.
  11. Flags can be prominent as they are in Newcastle`s home end opposite the away fans.
  12. Not split for PL matches and not allocated to away fans for cup matches.
  13. A real and great opportunity for a new beginning, refresh and renewal.
*seating figures are estimates.

North Stand - Disadvantages

What are the downsides ?

Are they of any real significance compared with the advantages?

South Stand - Disadvantages

What do you agree with below?

What do you not agree with and why?
  1. Split over 3 levels
  2. No cohesion between the 3 different levels. The upper tier is separated from the lower tier which it cannot see and often cannot be heard.
  3. Too small with a low rake at the lower level
  4. Sound deadening overhang at the rear of the lower level.
  5. Not a `proper, complete end by any definition or in comparison with other clubs.
  6. The middle and upper levels are allocated to away fans for cup matches. They usually dominate the singing.
  7. The SS design does not work well for atmosphere. It does not seem to be improving.
  8. There is little scope for it to be much better due to the stand`s layout.
  9. Away fans will always be located in the SS due to access and egress, a dedicated coach / car park and police / health and safety requirements.
  10. Pricing - the lower level safe standing higher priced compared with the rear of level 3.
  11. Barely visible on TV.
South Stand Level 1 - Advantages - 3,000 safe standing

1. It is currently an area where the best atmosphere is generated more frequently.
2. It has an active group who have put in time and effort in building mainly the lower 1 into a safe standing area.
3. Displays.

They are only visible for a short time, pre-match before being rolled away. The amount of time, effort, and cost of displays is significant.

How much of an atmosphere generator, are the displays?

4. Some fans are settled and prefer level 1 viewing.

5. Some fans prefer `banter` with away fans.
How does this contribute to the atmosphere and supporting the team?

6. Some like the type of facilities on the level 1 concourse.

What will be the better chance of improving the atmosphere? One large North Stand on ONE level, or a small, split, lower South Stand?

I'm not part of 1894 but why do you keep stating 6 and 7 below as "facts" as there's no evidence whatsoever that the rail seating in NSL2 will be the (joint) cheapest tickets in the stadium?

  1. Pricing - lower priced rail seats compared with the existing South Stand lower level.
  2. 3,000 rail seats will probably be the cheapest in the stadium.

The underlying theme from tens of pages in this thread, and other threads, is it's not known what the pricing of the rail seating in NSL2 will be and this leads many, including myself, to conclude that the rail seating in NSL2 won't be the cheapest tickets in the stadium. I personally think they will price it the same as SSL0 which means that not many from SSL3 will be moving into NSL2.

IF (and it's a massive if) City are planning to price NSL2 the same as SSL3, then it would be really easy for the club to promote on social media "Coming soon", "Blue Wall", "Atmospheric End" etc. to try and generate a buzz around NSL2 but this is conspicuously not being done. Presumably NSL2 will have the best facilities in the ground - is it really going to be priced the same as the cheapest part of the stadium? And also given that there is going to be corporate/hospitality in NSL2 that would mean huge price differentials within NSL2.

There's also absolutely nothing unreasonable about 1894 wanting their own section of a little over 10% of the ground's capacity so they can also put on displays and generate an atmosphere within that section. In a social media age I think displays will become increasingly significant and I don't think it's clear that if 1894 wanted to put on a huge display in NSL2 whether they'd be allowed to or instead would have to just make do with waving flags at the back of NSL2; that is in rail seats which 1894 have explained on here were added almost as an afterthought after pressure from 1894.

You seem in this post, which you have repeated, to be misrepresenting the key issue of pricing just to have a go at 1894.

Exactly this.

The club have their own plans for Tifo stand sized displays on NSL2 via the new NSL2 Tifo display mechanism from the top of the NSL2 roof, as shown in the PA.

I doubt very much the club want the 1894 Group doing their drop down displays at the front of NSL2.

The club would rather have the 1894 Group drop downs and displays remain on SSL2 and SSL1.

yeah she was quite fit ;)

I’d also say that Bluemoon generally is a place for words and not action.

We get tons of posters on here telling us how to suck eggs that have never joined a singing section or done anything proactive themselves. They sit from the comfort of their seat on the half way line with their flask and hot blanket and tell all of us in SSL1 what we’re doing wrong.
"I have invented a new song for a player, and posted the words to the forum, I expect it will have taken off by this time next week"

It’s likely NSL2 prices will be locked to SSL3 and North Stand lower tier to South Stand lower tier

So that isn’t a disaster at all.

But if they are offering exactly the same and people are generally happy where they are there wouldn’t be enough motivation for people to
Move to the other end of the ground.

Not only are people settled they like being near the away fans and also don’t trust the club on putting atmosphere / fans before revenue generally.

From the late 60s onwards the atmosphere at City came from the sections that were nearest to the away fans.

The scoreboard end (pre runner to North Stand) covered standing circa 1971 was apparently good that season but didn’t see people move over from the kippax en masse

Fair enough, I accept you'd have more info on this than me.

If the NSL2 prices are locked to SSL3, then why wouldn't City allow 6,000 rail seats to be put in and for NSL2 to be fully marketed and promoted as an atmosphere end?

Because they are not arsed about atmosphere

Look at the pictures they had on display a while ago , atmosphere in the bottom tier but no standing anywhere. It was an afterthought. Now it’s going in 3 sections in North Stand L2

Everything over the last 10 years from the prices the corporate sections the 9 resellers everything is revenue over atmosphere

Really impressed with that away end today, would be interested to know how it came across on the TV. I was at both this game and the league game in November, and today felt miles better than that.

Well done to everyone who made the journey.

Sounded loud… thought we had taken full/extra allocation judging by the noise on tv
