Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

Atmosphere was great at the start of the game and the build-up to and after our opening goal. Then after Arsenal’s equaliser we went very flat until our winner. There were 47 minutes between those goals. But from Haaland’s goal on, we were great again.

Their equaliser stunned us, right in the middle of a stadium-wide ‘We’re not really here’ started by the Family Stand.

I thought it was ok yesterday, loud at times, nervous and quite at other times.
One thing I really enjoyed was seeing the ground still full at 90 plus minutes, the players got the ovation they deserved.
It's amazing how getting out early to avoid a bit of traffic just doesn't matter when it's a big game, almost as if they could stay until the end every game.

This every week please
They cant do it every week as we end up looking stupid. They did it for the derby to good effect then tried it next home game and the crowd was absolutely silent with half of them still in the bar, it only works for high profile games as for the other games the fans just dont rise to it and the club have tried.

Well the last three homes are ‘high profile games’ are they not?

Im terms of the title race yes , however if your expecting derby day / Madrid/ arsenal levels of atmosphere against palace and Brentford then be prepared to be disappointed, I would be surprised if the ground is even full when the players walk out for those 2 games.

We don't get in the ground early enough to get a proper atmosphere going before kick off unfortunately, really winds me up.

I took this photo at 16:23, 7 minutes before kick off yesterday. Look how empty our end is compared to the away end.

I think this is important, because getting a few chants going round the ground before kick off can really help the atmosphere once the game starts.

I agree that a lot of City fans turn up just before kick-off, as I am guilty of it.
But, Away Fans, generally get in the ground earlier, especially "tourist" supporters who take photos/videos of a different stadium and fans.
Are City fans worse than others for attending late ?

From my experience of away games I would say yes, most times we play away the home fans are in the stands much earlier than we tend to see at the Etihad.

This is a great point. Same at start of second half.

I think the design of our stadium is conducive to staying in the concourse until the last minute as access to pretty much every seat in the stadium rarely takes more than a minute. We’re not crammed in like sardines like Old Toilet and some other grounds. I’d rather it was this way and wouldn’t swap it for somewhere like Klanfield where their highlight is singing their hymn 5 minutes before kick off.

Personally no interest whatsoever in standing inside a ground fifteen minutes before kick off . To me the social side of having a beer in town beforehand is part of the day .

Teams around Europe and the few in England can keep their drums and their monotonous chants they think are cool… nothing beats the English anthems sung during the game (not the 5to3 kareoke versions accompanied by music), arms-in-the-air, belted out from the base of your gut with more feeling and pride than any other kind of football chanting can ever get near.
