Attacks in Paris

If ISIS wore uniforms and confined themselves to camps or barracks, they would be an easy target for aircraft or for ground forces. But they don't. The very evil of these brutes is that they infiltrate the civil population whether that be in Syria, Iraq, Paris or London and it is this infiltration that makes them such a difficult target. If they were to be targeted in a civilian area then for every 'success' we were to achieve, there could well be over a hundred civilian deaths and it is this type of collateral damage that sickens the Muslim population throughout the world. Imagine our security forces killing a hundred or so Londoners just to take out one armed killer then we too would be duly appalled. There has to be another way. I have no idea what that way should be except to say it is a Syrian as Iraqi problem, not ours, and it is for those nations and their Muslim neighbours to sort out.

Agreed - the problem with bombing them from the air is you are trying to achieve ultimate victory with a weapon that is not designed to defeat that kind of foe in that manner. Furthermore bombing in Syria will not directly impact on a terror cell in Belgium but it may harden their resolve. Thats the condundrum

Isis wouldn't exist if we didn't bomb th crap out of Iraq, this is entirely our fault and our problem.

Ours as in the UK and USA.

From my recollection, within this thread about Belgian and French terrorists attacking French citizens the only mention of Israel has been by yourself apart from one or two daft comments about conspiracies.

they had sorted it out, it was called Assad.
 
Can somebody explain how increasing the number of cyber spies at GCHQ over the next 5 years is making our streets safer from this sort of attack? The government response will

"Explore whether internet service providers can work together, with government help, to divert more malware attacks and block bad addresses used against British internet users.
A renewed crackdown on cyber-criminals, with increased capabilities for the National Cyber Crime Unit."

That means going forward British financial institutions are better protected against cyber attack, make home users less prone to viruses and probably make Britain a better place for business to operate their online presence.

However against a back drop of cutting Police financing by 20% then as a response to Friday I think its bloody woeful. Even 1000 out of the 1900 GCHQ new recruits were already announced back on 9th September
