Attacks in Paris

Abdelhamid Abaaoud killed in Paris raid.

Abaaoud was killed after police raided an apartment in the Paris suburb. He has been formally identified thanks to his fingerprints. His body was found riddled with bullets and shrapnel in the building, the Paris prosecutor says.

A shame that he's dead, could have been good for Intel. Better he's dead than running around Europe so I'll take that.

I think there is a new breed of folk emerging in recent times

Religious Apologists

Most of these are not even of the religion they defend

They just like to argue the toss to appear high brow and smug with their Chorltonite friends

They can eat hummus around the dining table and talk about the poor misinterpreted terrorists

'They are not really terrorists'

Says one

'They only represent a small minority of muslims so can't possibly be getting their ideas from the Quran' says the other...having never read the holy book

'I blame the government'

Says another

'Have you tried this new range of sympathetically sourced grape juice?'

the last member of the group asks...

They all chuckle and go back to the Guardian crossword
The extra spacing to add impact - also a sure indication of the slow-witted it's been said. The thing about religious fundamentalists is that they are not all terrorists and as an atheist fundamentalist yourself I'm sure you'll agree. Anyway I'm sure if you stick to regurgitating the twitter rantings of Dawkins and Harris et al you'll be in no danger of any reasonable contribution to this debate

I am not ignoring questions. I just don't have answers. Many [mostly Sunni] Muslims would say that it's beauty lies in the lack of authority [such as the Pope]. All religions are spiced with local culture. What one thinks of individual cultures is a matter of personal taste, I suppose.

However, I strongly urge you to not be taken in by those with agendas. For example [leaving out the 'Z' word], you might not be in fear of Hindu violence but many Muslims in India are. There are regular, state-supported massacres. The Hindus are always second [after the Zs] on the terrorist bandwagon. That's why there are still over 900k Indian soldiers occupying Kashmir and trying to bring in more Hindus to 'ethnic cleanse' the area, much as the Chinese have done in TIbet. Of course, Buddhism is a trendy religion and the Dalai Lama really cool. Personally, I think that he is a lying, despicable parasite. Anyway, you'll get Hollywood stars meditating for Tibet. Not one of them ever even mentions occupied Kashmir or [heaven forbid] the continued genocide of the Palestinian nation.

You need to think more in the round, my friend. Personally, I wish the whole world has a Western, liberal, democratic culture that allowed free expression of religion and atheism. Sadly, that's just a dream. I'll defend Western values tot he death. However, I will not meekly sit by and accept the lies, hypocrisy and greed of the powerful and their acolytes, be they Christian, Jewish, Atheist [say, China] or Muslim.

Can we just say all religions are as bad as each other and we'd be better off without them?

The idea of facing justice is always a nice fanciful notion but these are stone cold heartless bastards I doubt he'd have coughed up anything useful, especially given the only means we have of extracting such info from him would have been to ask him ever so nicely. The fact the subhuman scumbag has been despatched at least means he can't "mastermind" the deaths of any more innocent people.

Praying for that day to arrive :)

An unexpected turn of intellectual speed from one of our more senior posters. Putting the youngsters to shame, George.

Yes, once you have come up with a suitable alternative not based on any previous human history or culture that in any manner refers to religion. Communism isn't allowed in this game, BTW.
Have you consulted Rascal on the no Communism ?

I am not making a stand. I am simply telling you that it is abusive to suggest that there are 'some' Muslims [whatever that figure is] who are conspiring with terrorists. There clearly are a few. As I said before, an estimated 700 have gone to Syria [some children, sadly].
In the end, you are talking about, what, a few thousand people across the UK? Out of 2 million. Way less than one percent. And you expect the 2 million to know about it? Seriously? Once again, how?
So it's abusive to suggest that maybe more than 1% of Muslims are involved in, support or know anything at all about terrorist activities yet it's fine to suggest that 99% of Jews support crimes against Palestinians.
