Finally, another curry place is due to open in Denton oppostie the taxi rank (next to a butty shop?). Forgot the name of it, but has an orange sign. Heard that the chef from Jaffrin is going there.

It's callrd the Broom house. Been know as a bit of a shit hole since i was a kid. Was ran by two gay lads (I think) last, then shut down about 8 months ago.

You could be right about it becoming a food related venture, as they have built an extension on the back, which is the usualy sign.

Surely the market (especially in Denton) is saturated with fast food/ curry houses?

No not where Call a Car is, which was the Broom House (dodgy as fuck 10 years ago, card games with £1000's going on the table and bouncers on the door to this games room). You're right in saying it was once a gay pub for a short time before it shut as we was all pondering why a rainbow flag was flying above it.

The taxi rank I meant is where Natwest is, and it is called Shah's I think.

I also heard that the Saxon St car park was going to be a KFC and a Subways, but that looks false now if KFC have applied for a drive through on that land near Denton Rock posted earlier.

Got a story about the old Broom House actually. Knocked on the side door on a Friday for a lock-in (me and a couple of mates were 16 at the time). Went in the pool room and this meat head in the corner goes 'How much you putting on this game?', so my mate puts a pound on the table. This bloke loses it and throws a wad of cash down on the table and shouts "YOU DON'T FUCKING COME IN HERE WITH LESS THAN A GRAND ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!". Then he proceeds to whisper in my ear..."If you don't lose to your mate I'll fucking fill your face in with this pool cue'.

So naturally...I put the cue down and went on my merry way. Bought a kebab, and off back home. Happy times :-)

I heard the same thing for Saxon st. Certainly for sale as a restaurant opportunity.

***MORE BREAKING NEWS***

The Stamford Pub is indeed going to be a restaurant. Just walking past and some guy on the blower walked through the door saying 'I'm doing that pub up, it's going to be a restaurant...'.

I've heard Indian or Thai, anyone else?

They are pushing on with plans to open 50 more pubs this year , but they are struggling to keep their beer at the price it is due to 'profits being squeezed'!

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=witherspoons%20opening%20more%20pubs%20&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CEsQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mirror.co.uk%2Fmoney%2Fcity-news%2Fwetherspoons-to-open-50-more-pubs-159536&ei=O4PpULGON8eP0AXN1oCIAw&usg=AFQjCNFww_Li1ncPkXvdjBPPdj3-mLrnBA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... dj3-mLrnBA</a>

Funny we are discussing this in a weekend where we've played Watford , because that's the town where Wetherspoons HQ is sited!

Strange for a Wetherspoons not to be in a town centre.

Raja Bros turned the Canterbury Arms in Ashton into a shop so them buying pubs up is not unheard of.

Done a good job.

I thought Weatherspoons only bought non pub premises?

The bought the Gateway pub , near Parrs Wood entertainment centre , which had been previously trading as a Hydes pub for many years.

It looks like the rumours are true, Weatherspoons look to have bought The Boundary. The bar area is currently being gutted and the conservatory area refurbished.

This may be good news for some who want a cheap pint before jumping on the Guide Bridge train to Ashburys for City games (.

The Sun Inn landlord is on here, wonder what he thinks or if he knows more?

MM

Hope the Boundary enjoys a bit more success than the Wetherspoons they opened in Longsight a few years ago, the 'Sir Edwin Chadwick' ... which apparently lasted less than 12 months before it closed!

It is a funeral directors mate, the guy was talking rubbish on the phone who was fitting it out it seems.

Boundary has re-opened but not as a Wetherspoons. I hear it is an ex landlord of the Hanging Gate that has it. Not been in yet but also heard a bit of money has been spent on it. If it doesn't work out over the next few months I've heard that it will be converted to flats. Now I thought the Boundary was a listed building of some sorts but been told that this is not the case.

KFC cancelled the opportunity to take up the Saxon St building but not heard more about it opening up near Denton roundabout.
