It is a rather sad indictment that the only teams to consistently serve up absolutely awful football are Scotland, England, and France, and the latter two have managed to go through via a massive amount of luck.

To be fair to the Scots they played to their ability. France and England are a facsimile of what they should be.

I agree but the French have be little bit more successful playing that way. England tried that with Capello and Hodgson and to some extent Southgate with little or to no affect.

You could argue the Swiss and Turks have been excellent on our side of the draw. Netherlands have been meh until today, England, well its England.

France and Portugal have been bang average at best!

A fair comment. However, as good as they've been, They aren't even close in terms of talent and any team wanting to win the thing would pick an in form version of those sides to face en route to the final over any of the 4 from the other side every single time.

Think Gordon Banks against Pele in Mexico WC 1970, but have it bounce on a soaking wet surface and having no idea how high (or low) it will bounce/skip…and put it in injury time to get the game to extra time!
