Autobiogrpahies

The first of former Slits guitarist Viv Albertine’s memoirs was very good.

Also enjoyed Julian Cope’s Head On.

Feel a bit guilty fessing up to this but I actually liked Joey Barton’s autobiography.

The broadcaster and former MP Bryan Magee may not be well known but has produced a lot of autobiographical books. He writes exquisitely and so I will be getting stuck into the ones I haven’t read at some point this year.

The Paul Lake book mentioned upthread is another good one.

The late Anthony Bourdain is also very much worth reading when it comes to life as a chef.

Other ones sitting on my shelf that I will hopefully be getting around to shortly include I Slept With Joey Ramone (by his brother) and Jeanette Winterson’s Why be Happy When You Could be Normal?

I had no idea that Winterson was such a wonderful comedic writer until I read her first novel a couple of years ago.

Peter Hook’s account of his time in Joy Division and ex-Fall member Steven Hanley’s The Big Midweek are also excellent accounts of being in a band, though the best one of the lot is Songs They Never Play on the Radio by James Young.

Few of the best I have read so far are:

Mike Tyson
Agassi
David Goggins (arguably the best)
Nelson Mandela
Simon Jordan (Ex palace owner- suprised me as i think he’s a weapon but his book is a v good read)

My only non fiction entry in the recent Top 100 books thread was The Grass Arena by John Healy. A brilliant read and a sad but ultimately inspirational story.
In terms of celebrity books, Brian Blessed’s memoirs are as mad as the man himself and particularly definitely merit listening in audiobook format

Phil Collins' is VERY good.
Mike Rutherford not as good as Phil's, but ok

RL's
Morley's is good.

If you're having trouble sleeping, Iestyn Harris' will have you "in the land of nod", within seconds.

Ive read a few more, but they are basically "thick lad, gets into trouble, starts playing rugby to save himself, retires"

Mike Atherton's is good.

Both Brian Clough ones are good, but the first is the best.
