Autophagy (and fasting).

If you have a brew in the morning wave tarra to auautophagy...youve just broken your fast...your break-fast.

Breakfast isnt needed past your prime, all your doing is wearing your organs out...you want to be at least 20 hrs to see some autophagy....eating at ten at night is a beltin way to reduce your life expectancy.
Middle age spread is a myth...if you eat the same amount of food you did when in your prime then have a word with your ego cause its fukin with ya...every inch of fat gathered on a males middle correlates to 13% greater chance of kopping for a page full of cancers...

Fasting stops your telemers shortening ( so does laffin a lot) which is a good for swerving cancerous growth.

Stanley mathews fasted on a monday, played in one form or another till his 70th yr
Bloody hell, my 'telemers' are short enough as it is!

Yes very true. There have been studies on injecting human faeces into sterile mice from people who struggle with depression and found that mice then suffer similarly. Even more than fitness it appears having a healthy gut can have massive impact on your overall health and wellbeing.

There is an app/company called Zoe which is doing a huge amount of research into this topic. They test peoples gut health and prescribe individually targeted diet plans to improve peoples gut health and monitor the results. The cost runs into the hundreds but already over 250k people have signed up in the Uk so although the tests are prohibitively expensive its still going to be a massive dataset of information for future research.

They also run a podcast which is also very informative.

Think I'd be a lot more depressed too if some bastard stabbed me then injected me with that.

Fasting overnight extended by a few hours before and in the morning lets your organs rest and recuperate , so long as you are eating low carb and plenty of protein you will not be hungry , i really need to get back on keto again , i lost four stone last yr , put some back on as i felt too low and have added some back on top of that , keto makes me feel so well aside from the first few days but then clear headed , lovely

Think a few on here are confusing the natural occurrence of Autophagy n that of 'Self induced' Autophagy.
All new to me.
I've always been relatively healthy (eat fruit, salads, only drink water - tea/coffee during the week).
When my thigh tendonitis recovers, I'll be back running - longish distances used to burn my chonkiness off.

But I'm absolutely carrying excess weight (although dressed it doesn't really show).
Have these knockers developing and love handles to the side even though I don't overdo the food and train almost every day.

My legs are in the best shape ever and I've these broad shoulders from when I used to constantly swim (and play tennis) as a kid. But I'm getting this silver back vibe on my chest/belly now (desk job never helps).

Interesting stuff.
How on earth do you all cope with out a milky tea/coffee in the morning....that's going to take some trialling.

For me, I chug a 500ml bottle of very cold water first thing in the morning, then have either a green tea or herbal tea as soon as I get into the office and I don't miss tea or coffee.

A lot of that craving for a cup of tea first thing is probably thirst and caffeine dependency.

Its all interesting stuff indeed n something most should be aware of or atleast have a slight interest of whilst seeking within n bettering themselves health-wise.

Not everyone's bio-chemistry n circadian rhythm cycles is gonna work in exactly the same manner to the next but it can be fun n very intriguing the lifetime study of self n connecting the dots...

I do the 16:8 or 18:6 and it works well for me.

Never been a fan of breakfast anyway, just black coffee and water until 1ish, although today for example it was 2.30pm before I’ve had calories since 8pm yesterday evening, plus I’ve played football last night and done a spin class this morning.

I currently do it. The longest I have done upto now is 5 days without food..After a few days when the body starts using fat as a fuel, you feel alert and and not hungry..I get the best sleep ever and since I've been doing it, little niggles like dodgy ankle and knee have stopped giving me jip.
Same thing with me regarding achey joints ect...
Personally, I think it is down cutting out all wheat products. IMO it's poison.

Agree on adjusting to meet your own requirements and rhythms.

I've posted before about how awful my sleep is, but I've continued to eat around 10pm.
I do this because I'm either having a gym class until 9:30 (like tonight's yoga class) and didn't want to eat beforehand.
I'll do my dinner at 6 today giving me a two hour window before class.
But I have running club on Monday at 6:45 till around 7:45 - that's a tricky one to fit dinner around (before....not a great idea, after then I suppose 8ish isn't too bad.

I tend to have lunch at around 1:45 so an early evening dinner seems too close.

So I'll eat lunch earlier (and lighter - maybe have my fruit then).
Trial and error mode this week.

Hydrate before you caffeinate. It's that simple, and God I love that saying.

People should be having at least 500ml of water down their neck first thing on a morning before contemplating anything else. We lose around double that throughout the night.

Coffee is great if used appropriately but most people just ain't drinking anywhere near enough water, which can even lead to binge eating.

Caffiene is xenobiotic
Bring. Sources.

There are dozens if not hundreds of studies on IF that have allowed black tea or coffee, it’s the consensus opinion that they’re allowed among advocates of IF, so if you’re going to tell people it’s not allowed, bring some sources to back it up, otherwise it’s not helpful at all and just potentially discouraging people who think that can’t go without any caffeine.

You can understand why it happens. For millions of years while we evolved into what we are, we didn’t have a ready supply of food in a fridge or cupboard that we could just nip to. We might have not been successful with hunts, a rival tribe might have eaten and taken all the local growing fruit for themselves, we might be in the middle of Winter where nothing much is growing so what food we had (nuts, dried and smoked meat) might be only eaten every few days, a natural disaster like a flood could wipe out our territory, we might be stuck up a tree for a couple of days while a pride of lions is waiting below to eat us… so our bodies evolved to eat the waste from our own bodies to keep us alive.

Be interesting to see if more studies come out about this as there seems to be very little about it with regards to humans (how long we should fast for to hit the ideal for autophagy, whether we can consume anything at all while fasting…).

Autophagy is all about giving the internal organs nothing to do. Caffeine will need metabolising...
So would calcium, magnesium, sodium, fluoride, potassium, iron and zinc in water wouldn’t they?

When you consider we already know our bodies have the ability to recycle Essential Amino Acids, I don’t think it’s too far a stretch that it doesn’t stop there.
