Average Speed Cameras, M62

is it true that if you change lanes the average speed cameras can't track you properly and so they don't work?
I don't know if that's still true but it used to (might still be) the case that if you moved over more than one lane on a three lane motorway then it did/does work. So start on the inside then move across the middle lane to the outside. I'd strongly advice you seek further opinions though before landing yourself with a ticket and some points for your pleasure.

This works better if you dont look while changing lanes

It's a myth. Changing lanes doesn't affect their performance but there was a legal loop hole that prevented prosecution when the measure took in more than one lane. The loop hole was closed a long time ago.
The numbers are taken using computerised digital recognition so they can register your number plate from an almost vertical angle (so much better than the human eye) and they can use even part plates if they get a full plate from any one camera at any point in the zone.

The 'you can do 79 in a 70 limit' thing depends entirely on which police area you're in (it's a postcode lottery for speeding fines too!). If you're in north wales you'll get booked at an average of 70.00001 mph because they work on a no mercy principle (twats).
Also, most camera systems are not operable most of the time because of political reasons more than anything else. If you've pushed the limits but not been booked it doesn't mean that you'll get away with it next time. . . so be careful to drive at the limit through the average speed area then speed like a madman thereafter.

if you switch lanes between the cameras, they dont pick you up because of distances travelled....or at least the older versions didnt

the worse ones are the hand held LTI 20/20, more commonly known as the dodgy scope....twice these things during court cases have been found to record the wall of the court room traveling at 5mph.....and the police call in an expert witness to verify the machines worthiness....guess, who that expert is....yup, the dodgyscope manufacturer

Has anyone on here been fined, or know of anyone who has been fined, for speeding in these average camera zones. I know lots of people (including myself) who have been caught by the fixed speed cameras but have never heard of anyone who has been done by average cameras.

No, I don't know anyone who has.

Someone on here has.
IIRC, he was just outside Sheffield on the Stocksbridge bit where there are cameras
